A less-than-fortunate timing issue
    #28386190 - 07/05/23 04:39 PM (1 year, 6 months ago)

Hello all,
I'm not new to this hobby, but this is my first post, so if anything is wrong, please let me know :-)

A long while ago, I had received some mystery LC from a friend. I went through 6 transfers on plates before deciding to move to spawn. I use oats. Until this point, things could not have been smoother: no contam, no jars lost, no problems! Unfortunately, I am now set to leave town for a week, maybe 2.

The issue i'm facing is such:

The jars are at ~95%. I'd give them another couple days, personally, based on their observed colonization.

I'm due to leave on the 13th.

Do I...
a) Birth them at the last moment, on the 12th, and risk a little extra consolidation in the jars

b) Birth them when they're at 100%, and risk fruiting while I'm gone?

or c) throw them all in the fridge until I can monitor them again?

All in all, it's not a life or death situation. I think all options will be okay. Just wondering what you good folk have to say on the matter.

Best
J

Toss them in the fridge at 100%, they'll be fine.

Welcome, while the previous poster is correct about putting the jars in the fridge, and you can do that, I'd recommend doing it now rather than waiting.

“Evey Hammond: Who are you?
V: Who? Who is but the form following the function of what and what I am is a man in a mask.
Evey Hammond: Well I can see that.
V: Of course you can. I'm not questioning your powers of observation I'm merely remarking upon the paradox of asking a masked man who he is”

Why leave grains uncolonized?

I was leaning toward this as well. Thank you :-)
