Bruising vs psilocybe content... * 1
    #28382784 - 07/02/23 03:24 PM (1 year, 6 months ago)

I believe most stuff I've read said bluing is not an indicator of psilocybe content, but it seems anecdotally to me there is some sort of correlation. Are there any studies done on this at all? Albinos are a bit recieving just because I feel they don't end to be stronger plus the contrast is easier to see

Most mushrooms containing psilocybin will bruise when handled certain ways this has been shown to have no correlation to potency in fact bruising is simply the oxidation of containing actives. A mushroom that is heavily bruised may be less potent because oxidation kills potency. Some genetics have shown to not bruise at all even though it’s not common. Most all cubes will bruise

Psilocybin is a chemical storage mechanism for psilocin. Psilocybin undergoes enzymatic dephosphorylation into psilocin when damage occurs, Psilocin polymerizes into the polymers which are responsible for the bluing seen on the surface of damaged mushroom flesh.

Bluing is likely to indicate a genetic affinity for this polymerization process rather than an indicator of overall psilocybin concentration.
