I managed to grow 14 useless tubs. Help me please :{
    #28382531 - 07/02/23 12:12 PM (1 year, 6 months ago)

Alright, so I haven't grown in a while, but I have been prolific in the past, not to the extent of some of the best growers here.

I started back a few months ago, Albino Cambodian swab to agar, then I started doing jars. I definitely did go to grains too quickly without getting a clear isolate. At first my grains were WBS, with some unideal ingredients like peanuts that I'd do my best to remove. Moved to oats, now I'm doing millet, but haven't put those in a tub yet.

I made a bunch early on to take advantage of a new space, but none of the tubs have fruited despite it being over a month, and that they mostly colonized. I didn't get 100% colonization, but I've gotten and seen fruits from tubs that look similar.  They myc I got on agar I guess was not ideal.

The very few tiny pins I have gotten on only 2 tubs have basically immediately aborted.

Only one tub got mold, and that I buried outside. None of the bunk jars or subs I buried outside have fruited yet either.

Is it possible the Coir? The ones used were Mother Earth and Canna Coco Coir. I feel like the Mother Earth one in particular seemed to have quite a bit of salt in it.  I also started using just coir and not Coir/Verm, but that shouldn't be an issue. After my first ones didn't colonize all the way, I decreased the ratio to 1:1.

Here are some pics of sides and top.

Like I know these are bacterial, but they should still fruit? Is this a total loss? Do I just dump them? There hasn't been mold, they smell fine. Water droplets at the top without pooling.  Should I rinse off the ones with metabolites? Should I try soaking the tubs?

I have made the polyfill looser, switched some to micropore tape, but nothing seems to work. The oldest tubs were from mid-may and still nothing.

Fortunately I got my last spore print of my previous good shit nicely on agar. Much better colonization and rhyzomorphic growth, so at least my next batches shouldn't be junk.

But still, this is sad, and Idk what to do. I don't expect much, but it would be nice if these were not a total loss.

Everything is heavily bacterial including that agar plate. Just like I told you last week or the week before.

Dump them and start over. Re-analize sterile technique and make sure you have axenic culture on agar before going to grain

Yeah you did, just wanted more opinions, more in-depth.

So does it just probably a case of reproducing shit agar with bacteria already hiding?

I thought most bacterial tubs would get a first flush, but if they are that bad then perhaps not.

A bit of bacteria will generally not be a big issue at low spawn ratios but heavily bacterial spawn will have a hard time even if you top fruit it instead of breaking it up

I see, thanks.

Would these perhaps thrive if left outside/buried?

Thrive? Probably not.

Throw out a few fruit? Almost certainly

Yeah you’ll prob get something from those eventually.

I’m kinda shocked they look as good as they do if all of those originated from that plate. As long as your myc is clean there’s really no such thing as going to grain too soon.

Almost 100% yes, so clean up that culture. The plate is heavily bacterial. You're right that bacterial spawn/tubs can definitely produce some yield but you said the tubs are from mid May? So they're roughly 5-6 weeks and not fully colonized? Far too much bacteria to even fruit.

They were not from that plate, but that plate was one that came from the same other plates.

Some are a bit newer as in two weeks so I'll give them a shot, the rest I'll compost in a private compost bin.

I'm getting a new one for spent subs. Should I break them apart or just plop them in if I want to see if they fruit anything out in the elements?
