Mold or Mycelium (bucket)
    #28382507 - 07/02/23 11:57 AM (6 months, 24 days ago)

Hi. It's mold right? Not mycelium?

It's oyster grain spawn in a coffee ground substrate. About 2 weeks old. Had a good deal of water pooled on top when I opened the bucket.

Thanks.

Oh really? Thanks.

Yes, tree oysters (Pleurotus ostreatus).

It seems to be climbing the sides of the bucket a bit, which is what caused me most doubt.

I'll leave it another while and see what happens. Thanks again.

Should start pinning any moment. You got a place to fruit it?

At the moment the bucket is in a spare room with a box covering it to keep light out.

The plan was simply to remove the box, which will expose it to indirect light for a good ~17 hours/day at this time of year. I could try moving it to a different room to get a temperature change, but if anything other rooms might be a bit cooler. I was going to keep a plastic bag draped loosely around the base to try keep humidity up a little once pinning does start.

I haven't spotted any signs of mycelium through the holes that I drilled in the sides yet, so it may be some time away if indeed it happens at all.

This is my first attempt at cultivation, in case that's not obvious.

Thanks for the interest and any advice.

Drape the plastic now and when you see pins the are 1/4"-1/2" long. Then you can lose the plastic and start misting instead.

Might not see mycelium right at the holes because sometimes the sub dries out right there and the mycelium stays back a little bit. Judging by the top it's 100% colonized.

There's one spot at the 6 'o clock section that looks a little concerning but it might be oysters doing their thing.
