Climbing out of the tub
    #28382160 - 07/02/23 07:12 AM (1 year, 6 months ago)

I have a few tubs of cubes going on and have been presented with a very perplexing issue, to me at least.  I am relatively new to growing.  My first few batches went without any problems and now, with these new tubs I find after spawning to bulk the mycelium will colonize the coir substrate, it will pass through the casing layer and a few days later I find there is white "mycelium looking" stuff climbing up the sides of the tub.
The entire surface is white ....but I do not see pinning no matter what I do or do not do.  I have a feeling that this white surface is not mycelium but rather penicilium or another form of contamination.
I am familiar with Trich.  I have had many tubs overtaken by Trich and this is not Trich as it never turns green.  The white is uniform and entirely covering the surface of the tub.  I have not yet come across cobweb mold but this white stuff is not phased by water when I mist it.  It seems almost like cotton balls in some areas.  Initially it looked like tomentose growth and in some areas rhyzomorphic growth.  I wanted to reach out and ask for advice before I ditched the tubs in the event they are contamination.

Thats mycelium. Your surface conditions look pretty wet. Are you misting on a schedule? How is the tub getting fae?

Is it really?  For some reason it doesn't look like "typical" mycelium to me.  I have isolated the tub so I can reduce the likelihood of cross contaminating other tubs - but it was slated for the compost pile.  It IS wet in there.  I have not misted it in several days.  I stopped misting it because the water droplets, as fine as they are, were pooling in areas.  There is plenty of moisture in there despite the fact that the lid of the tub is open about an inch and has been for two weeks.  No visible pinning of any sort, no growth other than the fuzz climbing up the sides.
I assumed the tub was contaminated because I have been having a lot of tubs getting contaminated.  I will get a few mushrooms sprout and before they are mature Trich appears and all growth ceases.  I BELIEVE the Trich and whatever other contamination is being introduced through the spawn/grain.  I have a few batches of LC that I made directly from spores.  I did not do an agar transfer as I probably should have.  I have been VERY careful with sterilizing substrate and I make the tubs in front of a laminar flow hood.

I will give the tub in question more FAE and hope for the best.  Any other suggestions are welcome.  This tub was made June 12th and has been relatively dormant. After three weeks I would have expected some pins but I have learned not to be in a rush when dealing with these guys as they have their own schedule.

The mycelium looks matted down probably due to the overly wet surface. Nothing about the white screams mold at me. It looks like mycelium trying to get some air

Right on.  I have given it more access to air.  Let's see what happens!  I would be happy if they actually produce something.  I have had so many disappointments lately I really need a win.
