Double Bass question
    #2838165 - 06/29/04 01:53 AM (12 years, 10 months ago)

So i was talking about music with a friend of mine after smoking  a few bowls(my favorite stoned discussion topic ) and I don't know exactly how it came about but he said "What was the first song that ever had a double bass beat in it?"  I had a few ideas of who it could have been, but I really wasn't sure. So, is there one drummer that is credited as starting the style?  If so what band was he in?

Any knowledge on the subject is appreciated as I'm very curious.

There's a dude, my old roommate who is a drummer was in love with him...
This guy is insanely the best drummer in the world, his kit was so huge. Damn I wish I could point you in his direction.

I'm not sure when the first double-kick pedal was invented, but I know that drummers have used two bass drums at least as far back as 1967(Ginger Baker from Cream comes to mind).

Good call with Ginger Baker.

It was Phil Collins you're thinking of Shroomerylurker; In early Genesis Phil was the drummer and Peter was the main singer.

Funkymonk, could it be Neil Pert? HUGE kit, but too recent to be one of the first double-kick drum players.

In the Rush in Rio DVD his kit surrounds him completely....

I remember mitch mitchel of the jimi hendrix experience was using a double kick back in 67.....

In my opinion doubple kick pedals arent that great, and the best thing to do is to get 2 bass drums and 2 seperate kicks, creates a completely different sound that is stonger, you can even tune the bass drums differently to create different sound combinations.,

there is the closest answer to your question. no one really knows, but he is credited as the first to use it on an album.
