Steam sterilizing no pour....

So, my pressure cooper's seal ring took a shit right as I was at the sterilization step (my PC is about 50 years old...lol),so I opted for steam sterilization. I couldn't do the microwave technique because I'm using unmodified 1/4 pint jars with metal lids. I ended using 90 second mycology's technique for this which calls for steam sterilization for about 90 minutes. Does anybody else have experience with this or similar techniques? Does it work in a pinch?

Not having a PC/autoclave is no reason to avoid agar. Although I HIGHLY recommend using a PC for agar. And in general do not suggest doing agar without a PC

Oh yeah, I've steam sterilized my no-pours before I got my Presto for more than a year I think. I'm not quite sure anymore on how long I steamed for - but it's pretty simple to figure out. I'd go for 90 minutes I guess and if that works out try 60. Great thing about agar is that you'll notice soon enough if stuff is clean/sterile!

Awesome! Thank you, guys! Luckily it seems that my local hardware store carries replacement seal rings, so as soon as I'm able I'll go grab one. As for my 'steam bathed' agar jars I think I'm going to wait a few days and if nothing nasty pops up I'll take that as a green light. I have one more question. I ended up finding some blank agar dishes in my 'cultivation fridge' that I'd forgotten about and I've had them sitting in my still air box for about two weeks. There's a bit of condensation from being in the fridge, but other than that they are completely clean. If anything nasty were to dwell on them it probably would've reared it's ugly head already, right? If so it would seem I just became a few plates richer....lol. Thanks again!
