Substrate looking weird
    #28377415 - 06/28/23 07:19 AM (1 year, 6 months ago)

Hi, would appreciate any advice. I'm new to growing. Attempting to grow some B plus mushrooms from a spore syringe and an "inject and forget" grow bag that is designed to be used with an exact volume of liquid and to stay sealed until the mushrooms are ready to be harvested. However in the last few days, the base of the cake has become discoloured. It looks quite wet around the bottom too (a bit of excess fluid at the bottom of the bag.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

when I saw that in mine I set the bag on a shelf upside down to redistribute the LC more towards the top.

With the amount of condensation and the creamy mycelium growth, i would say that this growth is quite bacterial.

Its common with grow kits and putting spores to them to come up with bacterial grows. You may still get some fruits though

Spores arent axenic since they're collected in open air environments, usually you want to do PF tek with spores (more bacterial resistant), or Clean up spores in Agar. I would recommend reading the cultivation rule book in my siggy (shameless self promotion :P)

Thanks for the reply and the explanation. I will check out the resource you mentioned. If I do still get fruits, will they also be contaminated with the bacteria? Or safe to consume?

Safe to consume, although i would dehydrate them for storage and as a precaution.
