The art of shredding
    #28376114 - 06/27/23 05:28 AM (1 year, 6 months ago)

LCS to BRF'd 5 1/2 pints 4 weeks ago.  No jars are totally covered.  One is more than half, one is half, one is maybe a third and the other two are an embarrassment to my ancestors.

Colonized areas seem to have shrunk significantly, pulling the cake away from the jar way more than I've seen before.  (And believe me...I know shrinkage)

At what point do I fill the air with sounds of Archspire and shred these fucks?

Oh, it's b+ btw

You don't. Keep the cakes whole. You can bury them whole in coir if you'd like but don't shred them. It defeats one of the major purposes of brf cakes

I kinda thought that shred to coir was implied.  My bad

Yeah, I get you want to shred to coir. Don't shred. Bury whole.

I really had never heard of doin this before, hence my confusion.  Do you bunch the cakes closely and just fill in the gaps then case it?

This sounds interesting

Sweet.  I just found a tek posted by mushroommate.  Seems like it would legit be much better than shredding, mixing, tamping, and other ings I don't wanna do.

Lol this explains soooo much... Should have just buried that in coir using a quart (1L) jar. Could have used the jar as it's own fruiting chamber

You inoculated 5 BRF cakes with LC 4 weeks ago and the best jar is only more than half colonized?

Yeah for one cake. I buried it in a quart ziploc container (used for bottle teks), came out to be about 1:2 ratio of brf cake to coir

Care to elaborate on the consequences using a too large container?

Is it longer colonization time? What else?

My immediate reaction to this is thay youll get longer colonization times, as well as sparcer pinsets in relation to the surface youre growing on.
But im not too sure, im prepared to take notes :takingnotes:
