Do true albinos have white spores?
    #28376205 - 06/27/23 07:45 AM (1 year, 6 months ago)

I'm just getting into albinos and have done pearly gates, jack frost, and albino chodewave. I swab the gills and the swabs turn blue from oxidation, but are there most likely white spores on the swab too? Hard to know what to be looking for when swabbing if I'm used to the purple/black spores on "regular" cubes. I'd hate to give out a couple and find they were sterile lol

Actually they are transparent. Your swabs should be fine if the mushroom had made spores. You could always test one if you don't have a microscope.

Interesting that's kind of cool. When I get a microscope, how would I prepare a slide to look at a piece of gill tissue, and if transparent will I even see any? Do most people use a stereo or compound?

I just tweeze off a piece of gill, put it on the slide, add a drop of water and place the coverslip on. Transparent spores are visible. I use an old Meade compound scope.
