Differences in anti-contamination requirements between spawn to bulk and fruiting

Greetings myconauts,
From what I can gather, there is no need to employ sterile procedures during the spawn-to-bulk step. Presumably, this is because the substrate has been pasteurized, and the spawn is fully colonized and resistant to contamination.
Why, then, are filters needed on modified monotubs once the tub is placed into the fruiting phase? Why not just unfiltered FAE?
Thanks!

My guess would be it’d be too much FAE with the set up or you’re looking at something out dated n

Ez dial pasty tubs dont use filters at all. Theyre not required, only a way to restrict FAE, not technically filters since the lids arent airtight to begin with.

I used to use small holes about a 1/4 inch with a drill bit, spaced a few inches apart just above the sub. I had micropore tape on them and found I wasn't getting enough FAE and just started not using the micropore tape and it worked great. I got contam sometimes but I think that was because of other factors. I also usually didn't case.

A separate fruiting phase is outdated for many now. And sterile technique is over once we spawn to bulk, since we do it and then grow in open air. The main thing is clean spawn to begin with. Everything else flows from that ideally.
