Natalensis overlay or funny genetics? * 1
    #28375105 - 06/26/23 11:12 AM (1 year, 6 months ago)

Friendly greetings all

Recently started growing and I am enjoying it thoroughly. I have this tub going, it is Burma cubensis but is behaving like Natalensis with wicked overlay.

No signs of pinning after three weeks though I do see very small mycelial knots.

The white fluffy flesh you see is quite potent, I would compare it to APE's.

Any thoughts?

If thats cube mycelium than it looks pretty bacterial to me  , what are your grow conditions like?  Temp, hows it getting FAE, E.C.T.

hey look somebody else is growing cheese lasagna. Join the club.

What do you mean the "white fluffy flesh" is potent? are you eating the mycelium with a spoon?

Aha! That might be

19 degrees Celsius

Passive FAE through gaps between lid and tub, I fan out once a day.

I lightly mist once every 2 - 3 days, depending on how dry the myc is getting.

With this specific tub I went 50/50 on grain spawn and substrate.

What would be the best way to avoid bacterial contamination would you say?

Nah g, I am cutting the entire cake like a birthday cake and eating the chunks.

Just kidding, the white fluff you see is not fluff. It is solid mushroom flesh that bruises blue, I "harvested" near 30 g of it, it comes off the substrate as easily as mushrooms do

Quit fanning, and some of those water droplets look very big. Not sure if youll get fruits from this, maybe keep it around and start on a new project?

Thank you, I will try these steps, as well as drain the tubs from those droplets.

Do you perhaps have any extra advice for me concerning bacteria in my grain jars?
I have a pressure cooker

Need a bit more info.

What grain are you using, how are you prepping it. How are you inoculating them? What kind of lid does your jar use e.c.t

I am using rye.

I boil them for 30 minutes to hydrate them, then I pressure cook them for 90 minutes in the jars.

Forgot to mention, I inoculate via liquid culture syringes and agar to grain.

Here is the photos of my jars:

I have z-strain which has been cleaned on agar to t5 which does something like this. They still fruit though, took a couple weeks I think. It gets a lot worse than this too, I'll upload a recent picture later.

You could try & flip your sub as that has initiated fruiting for me in the past when I was extra impatient. Last resort though I'd say.

While I can't say for sure what's going on with that tub, this may be a thread of interest.

Edit: I should also ask two questions based on what you said about PCing and inoculation. Are you following the entire PC procedure including venting? And did you test the LC on agar?

Thank you, I will check it out.

Venting?
I am unfamiliar, oh boy I missed something really important didn't I:confused:

I did yes, very mixed results, some don't take at all, and leave a brown splotch where I dropped the LC on the agar

You want to let your PC vent steam for about 10-15min before bringing it up to pressure, otherwise the pc doesnt come up to the correct temperature to sterilize your grains

I will try doing this as well, though my PC has a vent that stops spewing steam after about 15 minutes automatically, then it starts pushing against the weight
