Aloha from Hawaii,
First time posting here. I thought I would share my no prep oat grain method. First picture is dry oats filled half way in quart jars, boiling water poured into it until there is about a half inch "lift" of the oats that want to float on the top, I let it soak for maybe 20 minutes or less, shake it up to disperse the water around a bit and into the PC.
Third picture is a grain jar that's 2 weeks old using this tek, no contam and works great when colonizing. once I take it out of the PC some grains on the bottom can sometimes burst (but no more then normal runs) and some grain on top will look a bit drier, just shake it all up and in a day it will absorb and balance out. I use LC and do this for bags as well, so having the grain on the drier side is more ideal for me. Also if the grains are a little drier it balances out substrate that may be a bit too wet when I make all in one bags.
I know, the endospores yada yada. Shit works, and I will never go back to boiling grain (and bursting grains) or soaking grain (and forgetting about it until it sprouts or ferments, or drying the grain on paper towels and all that stuff. It seems like a more scientific and consistent way to do it. I guess I'm asking how could this be the wrong way of doing grain prep?

If it works it works. You will have some limitations, like the grains getting sticky causing them to clump together, and of course you'll have slightly less volume than if you were to properly soak your grain. The problem now is sample size. Need more runs and of course results from the entire grow using this method to verify if it's viable.

Oats are already notoriously difficult to reach proper hydration. I personally wouldnt no prep them, flash prep at most
