Spawn bags keep getting contaminated with black.

I have been having a lot of problems with my grain after switching over to milo and millet. I soak my grain for 18 hours and dry it. Then load it into an autoclave for 2 hours I then do a G2G transfer. Currently I have about a 30% success rate. I don’t know what is happening. They are all becoming contaminated with this black looking mold. I work in front of a laminar flow filter, and practice sterile procedures.
Could this possibly be due to not letting the grain dry out properly? I feel the grain could have been a little more dry but it was not soaking wet after placing in auroclave. I let air dry for about an hour.
Any input into why every bag is being contaminated black would be very helpful.

Molds are easily killed by heat, and moisture doesn’t cause contamination, contaminates do. most likely that it’s getting In while you are doing your transfers.

G2g with bags is a bit trickier than with jars alone.

The grains being transferred could also be contaminated.

Yeah, that mold seems to be far too extensive for a simple hand hover mishap.

Whatever your transferring to grain jar is contaminated. Do you have a picture of the jars your using for spawn?

When I did the G2G transfer, the bags were was fully colonized without any contamination. Could it be I need to sterilize the bags longer than 2 hours in the autoclave?

Depending on the size, most standard spawn bags hold 4+ lbs. 3.5-4 hours for that size. As mentioned before, molds die quickly and at relatively low temps, so even at 2 hours all mold should be gone.
Culprits could be:
The culture; spawn you used for expansion, sloppy technique, pinholes in bag, or faulty seal/filter.

How were the masters inoculated? Not that you can’t use bags for masters, they do seem to be greater vectors to contaminate the receiving bags Vs. jars.

Masters were inoculated with agars. My plan is to introduce some bags I just sterilizer using the same method into the same environment. This way I can check to see if it is my bags or sterilizing technique. I need to start crossing off the list to see where I went wrong. I’m very frustrated right now.
