I had to google tria and Im not sure how to source any locally so I ordered 5lbs of alfalfa seeds for cover crop.
I live and work on the east coast, I plan to surf cast for stripers very soon so I will look around the rocks to harvest kelp. Id prefer to just use what is washed up on the beach as to not disturb but I assume the quality would be diminished unless after a storm and I know its fresh. Maybe I can jut take pieces so I dont kill it
I have a little handle on fermentations and plan to learn more.
I got coast of Maine soil but it is definitely not fluffy like you describe sunshine#4. I will get that next.
I do have a small worm farm and its growing exponentially
I was thinking of starting some fish hydrolysate seeing fish is easily aquired. I ground a dozen lobster shells a couple weeks ago and froze them but I havent yet looked into what I can do with it.
I need to figure out what I can source locally for ammendments but I honestly dont know where to start.
Edit: if you could recommend any books I would greatly appreciate it. Im very interested in KNF and soil biology
I like the SS#4 Prof. over peat because it just plain holds up longer for me. Plus I rarely have to add perlite or anything like that. I see people are now adding coir to the mix to add fluff. I grow mushrooms on it first lol.. but it's not a bad idea. I've tried so many recipes that just turn to hard pan muck. Now I just wing it and usually do pretty well.
No books up to date but the Unconventional Farmer has been one of my favorites for a long time. https://www.unconventionalfarmsupply.com/unconventional-farmer-links
Some good info here too. https://naturalfarminghawaii.net/
The site is down for maintenance right now but definitely follow Em'. She's great! And a really cool person with excellent write up skills. https://www.420magazine.com/community/members/emilya-green.93498/
Oh and the Sunshine #4 I prefer is the Professional. Advanced has coir in the mix and I really didn't like it for my first run.. though it's recycling nicely.

Not sure what’s going on with this sherbreath, it’s either got purple leaf tips sticking out or pistils going purple.

Was that you that posted her fractal watering write up a ways back? I couldn't remember lol. She was my ferment buddy back in the day though. Good memories and really glad to see her still around. Staff now too I see.. poor thing What did you have in mind for your primary long term N? IF in mind yet lol. I personally like chicken guano. Partly because I have chickens, but I've noticed a certain.. fluff to it compared to bat. Feather meal works really nice too, but it's not free.

Purple stipules.. part of the calyx. Probably a hold over from the Durban in it's lineage. I used to see that a lot with Durban.

Em is a really sweet lady, I love her… I sent her some purple moby haze like 5 years ago, I wonder if she’s grown them out yet? Super fire sativa! Just takes forever… I saw she was a mod the other day also….I hope she likes it.

Just an update on the Northern Lights auto. Found something interesting going on.
Polyploid branch amongst the rest of them? This is the only branch on this plant like this.

Pretty cool picture. Apparently butterfly wings are made up of tiny scales, and this is one scale stuck to a trichome.

I'm willing to bet that's a fungus gnat wing, lol. Amazing pic BTW.

Omg! Have any of you guys ever seen whiteflies? It’s like a freaking swarm of mofo’s around your plants as soon as you touch em! That shit was a pain. It was like the first 4 years I found new bugs every year. Do you guys feel like that with outdoor.

I had white flies last year. Shake the plant and they all go flying around. I figured out they where mostly living in an evergreen type bush on the other side of the house. I nuked that bush it with pyrethrin which seemed to take care of it. I used a leaf blower to get them off the weed plants. Shake the plant and then blow them away
This year is fungus gnats. I put out a bunch of yellow sticky traps and i've caught hundreds of them in like a day. Waiting for the BTI applied from the watering can to work. They where mostly on my almost done plant, either that or they like the sour stomper stink. Grossing me out they land on the flower buds. Been picking them out every day with tweezers. Definitely doing a bud wash. Gnats might be from growing mushrooms or the composting I did. I didn't have gnat issues last year. I didn't do autos though either last year which the timing of when gnats are heavy might be why I notice them this year.
So far no signs of caterpillars. Got a bug zapper going 50-75ft or so from the grow that kills lots of moths.

Hahaha, I did the same thing with with the leaf blower and hose. Omg they were everywhere!
That’s weird, fungus gnats are one bug that I haven’t seen outside much. I bet some mosquito bits would help if you did a little root drench.

I’ve sexed my 8 plants and 7 are female and the other one I can’t tell yet. How do I keep getting ratios like this year after year?

I probably did post that.
As for primary slow release N, I'm working on compost and worm castings but I will prolly have to source something else as well. I wish I could have chickens or rabbits...Everyone Ive talked to about manure is already using it for themselves so idk. Im open to suggestions
Regarding cannazym, do you use it as recommended, every water, or just before harvest to help break down roots for recycling?

Dandelion ferment is not bad by itself. It will provide a decent amount of N. Very simple to make and you can speed up the fermentation with your LAB's though it's not absolutely needed. Chickens come at a price..
They tear up your Comfrey!!!
Which is probably one of my favorite plants for living soils/mediums btw. It can be a tea or ferment. Top dressing or mulch. Pretty flexible. It has some N and a lot of macro nutrients. If you don't have fresh access you can get dried leaf online for pretty cheap. OH damn! And don't forget your bananas! Both are great for flowering.
Now a days, with living, I just apply the Cannazym after chop and let the pot sit for a month or so before recycling. If I was using salt based ferts I would apply pre chop. Live seems to kind of take care of itself when it comes to the plant using up it's stored nutrients at the end of it's life cycle but salts are a different animal.
Most of your ferment materials for supplements won't require much either. This stuff is extremely potent and when Gill says it won't burn your plants.. he's not talking about weed. A little tiny bit goes a long ways and it's a bit of a learned groove with every batch. I highly recommend using a PPM/EC meter and literally work your way up a drop at a time when mixing with water.

I picked up a few more cuts/clones....
The dude had exactly what I was looking for...Several strains from the breeder I wanted to work with this season (Twenty20 Mendo), cuts/plants that already have a nice root system developed, and strains that tend to finish up relatively early. The plants I got from this dude are much healthier/robust/lush than the itty bitty clones I got last week.
I got...
"Smell of Success" "Sparkle Face" "Girl Crush F2" "Hella Jelly"
I've got too many plants at this point though and will be gifting away some of them.
So the line up for my little summertime outdoor porch grow will be...
2-Smell of Success (Twenty20 Mendo) 2-Hella Jelly (Humboldt Seed Co) 1-Sparkle Face (Twenty20 Mendo) 1-Girl Crush F2 (Twenty20 Mendo) 1-Moon Boots (Archive) 1-Pecan Pie (Raw Genetics) 1-Rainbow Belts 2.0 (Archive)
I've heard Hella-Jelly can finish around Mid-sept outdoors, and Smell of Success by Oct 1st, I expect those to be my early finishers...The rest should finish up sometime around the first week of Oct, though "Girl Crush" sounds like it may take the longest & might have to give er' the chop earlier than ideal.
