Last grains taking forever to colonize!!
    #28370415 - 06/22/23 04:48 PM (1 year, 6 months ago)

Hey all! So I’ve been getting the hang of cultivating I’d like to think! I’ve ran about 16 QT jars of spawn now with zero contams (knock on wood) and spawned to bulk about 12 shoeboxes no contam! I have one qt jar right now I’m wondering might be my first fail. Knocked up about 3 weeks ago with a healthy agar plate, it’s not wanting to colonize in one spot it seems the myc is growing much thicker everywhere else just won’t get to a section of grain which leads me to believe a contam I can’t see. I’m worried if it doesn’t get colonized soon it’ll dry out. I run unmodified lids and aim to get the grains fairly dry per Bod’s tek. Let me know what you think!

Looks like the mycelium is thickening up on the edge, might be some bacteria occupying the spot.

You could try giving it a shake and report back with what happens.

It’s frustrating I have just 2 other spawn jars at 100% ready to go just waiting for this one to get to 100 so I can try out the 12qt shoebox 3qts spawn

2 will be plenty in a 12 qt.  These are are both 1.5 qt spawn and half brick coir.

That’s quite a bit of spawn for a 12 qt.  For a good spawn ratio you’re gonna end up filling the box almost to the top.  I run 4 qts in a 45.  Better to spread the spawn out or use a smaller amount in the smaller boxes to pull 1 super good flush and maybe 2 and flip it.  I think you’ll probably just create more issues than yield with high spawn volume in a small box.

I completely understand what you’re saying. I’ll run 2qts in my new 12qt boxes but I will say that my 2qt spawn in 6qt box runs are really putting out some beautiful canopies! Here’s one I got going now I know it needs harvested I just don’t have time before work!
