Kinda started cutting and tumbling some of these. The big dry ones look better wet, not a lot going on so far. Small tumble stuff looks neat. Gonna try mineral oil. Read rubbing it in helps shine. Also got a 10" blade for drop saw. Figured a way to keep woork wet while motor won't get soaked, it's mounted on handle right at the blade so that helps.

SHOEBOX HELP

Hi everyone, need some advice again unfortunately.

Why are the caps already opening, even though the fruits are undeveloped still.

First time doing shoeboxes.
These have been spawned before 17 days.
They started pinning around this weekend.

I posted this week about the substrate not being fully colonized and got feedback the surface was too dry from Smelly.
I misted to get fine small water beads.

Thought I was golden, the pinset is uneven but coming in and today I see the caps are starting to open on these small and underdeveloped fruits.

Any idea what is going on and what I can do to remedy this if not for this flush then at least for the second one.

Before you say the surface looks super dry, I misted yesterday and when I shine a flashlight on the side I can still see fine beads of water on the myc and the knots, not that much on uncolonized sub. The light in these images doesn't show what I see when i point the flashlight from the side.
But the idea is to let evaporate and then mist again, if I understood the thread from ComebackKid on surface conditions correctly.Maybe I'm being overly cautious not to overwater.

In any case the question is what is with the fruit, is there too much fae, too little fae, sub too dry, surface too dry, or something other than this.

I'm lost, really thought this was going to go nicely.

The scaly texture on the fruits makes me think they have lecanicillium aka verticillium.

They look fine to me.

They should prob double in size overnight at this point.

But also a lot of people are disappointed with how big the shrooms are when they first grow. I definitely was, for some reason they seem to look way bigger in pictures.

Ok, thank you for taking a look.
First grow I did was PF tek and they were real tiny probably because the cakes started dying from drying out and they just opened while being really tiny.
A friend even asked me why are they so tiny, I said not sure either the pf tek substrate is such that it gives smaller fruit or my terrible set up with 3 small cakes in a huge SGFC resulted with them drying up and going green and beforehand growing some tiny fruits.

Yesterday when I saw the edges popping I started freaking out and posted, because I thought, oh shit, fucked it up again.
Apologies if this was a false alarm.
I got some mushies from a friend and they had nice thick stems and were quite big so I keep thinking bulk substrate is the way.
Anyway, thanks again for checking it out I'll shut up now, mist if needed and cross all extremities, hope all goes well.
Hey, at least I got some mushies going from my own spore print and agar for the first time.

Maybe it's because I'm used to growing fucking mold, but I'm surprised that you are getting knots/pins popping through the top layer without any myc visible on the surface. It's like all the action is right below the surface and only the primordia are breaking through. That's pretty cool.

I know and I don't get it. I was expecting colonization of the pseudocasing layer (which is only like 1-2 cm thick) before any pinning starts.
It only popped out in one place covering like 2 square cm.

I haven't read the surface conditions thread by ComebackKid until 2 days ago and didn't know about having fae very low until it's permeated and then increasing it to initiate pinning.
I just spawned to a shoebox and set the lid loose on top so I'm thinking this would be "fruiting conditions immediately at spawning" that are mentioned in that thread. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Maybe I misunderstood the thread.
But it's very weird that only the primordia are breaking through.

The other box is even crazier, it's back to back knots.
Look

To keep a right sterile technique inside the SAB, it's OK to take off the wrap of the Petri dishes inside it and then rub them with a paper towel soaked in ISO 70%? It's also recommended to rub the jar caps inside the SAB? Or does these actions are not good 'cause of air movement created inside it?

After losing 3 jars out of 4 (agar to grain), I guess that something's wrong with what I do.

The surface myc is a combination of genetics and tub set up.

This is TOC, you can see where on one end I started running out of coir for a top layer so it was thinner and now more colonized but overall it’s mostly just knots. Then I have rwXmm tubs that are solid white on top. Long as it’s healthy and conditions are good it doesn’t matter.

Personal Evolution in Cultivation.
My lab game is getting better, T4 Plates went to grain and were colonized in 10 days flat.  Some of my plates were not so clean but i went ahead and sent them to grain after plates were consolidated.

10 Days 100% Colonized Red Winter Wheat - One is proper grain hydration @ field capacity, the other is overhydrated grain causing green sprouts. Not ideal but still made great spawn.

fruits from 5th and last flush outta that sub. Some DC Mak decent fruits that i have cloned out and on grain to see where were at.

Send it.

Fuck it, I'm just going to send everything I have to grain. Even the weird plates and the germ plates? :itseveryone:

I mean bro here has jars with enough bacteria to colonize the entire known fucking universe and is getting 5 flushes, while we be tossing jars that have 1 funky looking grain.

If it whites, it grainz.

All of that shitty spawn and only one picture of a single tub that barely flushed. Sounds about right.

Just because someone typed something on the internet doesn't make it truth. Those grains are beyond fucked. Don't let tall tales from boobs lead you off the path to success. Sprouted/growing plants in jars is not "great spawn", I don't care what anyone says. If the spawn had been sterilized there wouldn't be plants growing in the jar.

Not 100% colonized; grain doesn't reach field capacity; green sprouts can't grow from denatured protein/seed germ (sterilization process), not great spawn because it's not spawn at all. 5th flush, my ass. I can tell it's not even the second flush just by looking at the substrate.

I just sent a slow recovering, shady looking couple of grain jars, with what looks like a touch of yeast in them, to a minitub with a 2:1 ratio of substrate to spawn.
I'm checking the surface now and I have to say, it's looking dodgy. Could be mycelium colonizing, could be some mold fuckrification. I should know within the week.
I could also say, as so many do to hide their embarrassment, that it's an experiment, but really it's touch of laziness, 'fuck it,' and desperation.

I've bungled my timeline for projects and am too in-between at the moment. But I'm praying for this tub, even though I know that most likely I'll be posting all of the
blackmail photo evidence in cult confessions soon enough. I'm down with the mold posse at this point. This is not a learning experience. It's not humility.
There's nothing that I can defend about this. But that's the way she goes sometimes. It's a type of madness and I'm riding this one all the way down Baby.

Yeah but, mold can't win when you fan, mist the tub walls, strangle the mycelium so it gets no air and properly colonize it in darkness for about six weeks.
So it was written in the days of the prophet Stamets, before he patented shitty looking hats. So it will always be. This is known.
