pressure cooked grains
    #28368255 - 06/21/23 06:48 AM (1 year, 6 months ago)

Hello fellow Shroomers! So I p.c. some rye berrries after soaking for 18 hours and when I looked at them they appear to be pale, with a texture that doesn't seem moist and healthy for the mycelium to grow on. Question is IS this normal or can grains become over sterilized? My heating element went out and I had to restart the p.c. so appx 3 hours of total time under pressure...

Usually there is a simmer process after the initial soak. Those grains look very weird, i would prep the grains again, whos tek are you following? Did you vent your PC?

I simmered for 15 minutes prior to p.c.
I then p.c. but ran into issues and ended up being a 3 hour p.c.

Twist, that soak seems way long to me but I could just be not that up with the Tek you're following. Which Tek are you doing here?

IMO those grains look dried out.

You keep mentioning 3 hours total of PC time, but if the grain stayed heated for a long period between the cycles it can dry it out like that.  Dry grain colonizes slow, so it's your call to make.  I would be tempted to feed them to wildlife and run a new batch of jars if they were mine.
