Here We Go * 3
    #28367947 - 06/20/23 11:19 PM (1 year, 6 months ago)

Alright yall, I'm here with 36 jars, ready to start my project. Classic PF Tek 2-1-1 V-BRF-Water with top layer dry verm.

I've gone ahead and wrapped them then sterilized them in a 23 qt presto, steam vented 15 mins and cooked at 15 psi for 45 mins. I then let them sit for roughly 24 hours before handling them. Then I set up my SAB, cleaned my area and got to work.

I used my phone flashlight ontop of the SAB to give myself ample lighting to work. 2 jars ended up being water logged so I ended up with 34 total. I was able to work with about 8~ jars comfortably in my SAB, I had 12 but it was slightly cramped. For this project 12 jars I have inoculated with a single injection right in the middle of 1cc per jar. The rest are standard PF Tek procedure, 4 inoc. points but still totaling 1cc per jar. I'm curious to see how these LC differ from another. I know strain somewhat plays a factor, but aside from that I want to compare single inoc. point to multi inoc. point and see what gives me better or rather more consistent results for future projects. I've dated and labeled all the future water tubs and placed the corresponding cakes in them to colonize.

Now, all that's left is the hard part: patience. Thanks everybody! :toast:

I haven't really seen it either, it reminds me of oysters so I'm hoping PF/Cakes may be a better way to cultivate enigma? We will see :headbang:

I've got a couple I can spare for mycologys sake, I'll do 1 from single inoc and 1 from multi inoc when the time comes. Thank you!

Thank you! I try to be thorough but I don't like to drag on either lol. Next project is doing agar on the side while waiting for cakes, which I will be starting Saturday. If agar goes successfully with enough healthy transfers I will start bulk in monotubs with WBS for spawn on Coco Verm sub. I really want to do manure/straw but I'm not having that smell in my living quarters lol. I've been following Frank's tek on it and I think I'll be confident enough to start bulk after some successful plates.

fuck yeah! agar is sick & ups your mush cult game so much. you have almost limitless possibilities when you get into agar. imo only reason to use straw/manure is if you get it cheaper than coir, otherwise it’s just more work to prep. definitely a solid substrate tho! sounds like you’re doing your homework

Yupyupyup. I got all the supplies for my poured agar getting here Friday, nichrome loop, celltreat petri dishes, celltreat disposable agar spreader, agar, LME, and 4 pyrex slimline media bottles with orange gl45 caps recommended by SnC (1 for 29.99 or 4 for 63.99 kinda a no Brainer) all in all it was a little pricey for everything about $240, but I feel that's not a bad investment to be able to pour 300 plates initially. Then I will only need plates as I have sufficient agar and lme to pour over 1000 plates. But baby steps. Let's get a single healthy myc. colony first.
:snoopyes:
As for the manure, I read some older threads by Agar, and it seemed his potency was significantly higher when grown on manure vs any other substrate? Or is that old/outdated info? My first grow was PF and those fruits came out amazing. Stronger than anything I ever had before TBH. A+ Albino. Thanks! Cheers!

ehh idk about the potency thing. sounds like some old shroomery bro science. i can neither confirm nor deny it, but will say that a lot of people on here grow in coir exclusively & get potent results. i don’t have any complains with potency on my coir grows either, if they are less potent i’m not noticing it

Yeah I wasn't sure quite a few people agreed but quite a few also disagreed, but the majority seemed for manure. Either way I'm sticking to coir/verm. It's easier to eat the mushies knowing they didn't come from shit, too. At least in my mind. Thanks!

yeah you gotta take the age of the post into consideration too, a lot of paradigms have shifted even in the past like 6 years. there's good info that's old on here for sure but with those older posts you kinda have to put them up against modern conventional methods too. most of us are growing on coir & if manure was really that much more potent i think people woulda caught on by now

I just got done reading another thread of his, something about a "miracle" spawn, that required no sterilization, and could be inoculated by any means with little to no risk of Contam, and from there it never seemed to go anywhere, all these mystery ingredients he claimed werent able to be purchased by regular/hobbyist cultivators. I mean he seems like a very knowledgeable user, and he knows MUCH more than I. Though, you're absolutely right, if one spawn/sub had any significant effect on potency, that'd be the only thing advocated for when anyone asks what to use.

straight up lol like ill go 8-10 if i know there's some RR post or some other old head wisdom on it but other than that 6-7 is about the max

@feelfighters: interesting lol i've never come across the thread but yeah sounds a little sus, i'm sure he's a much better cultivator than i for sure no disrespect, but coir def does the same thing claimed. & i'm sure at some point something will supplant coir. but coir is fine until then

There's nothing wrong with Frank's Tek as such but it is, in my opinion, somewhat outdated in some respects. Using things like manure has no benefits for cubes. You get just as good results,
with less hassle and less danger of contamination with plain coir, or coir and verm. I would also say that the majority, at least here, don't grow cubes with manure based substrate anymore. It's not really a thing nowadays.
For some exotics and gourmets sure, but not so much for cubes. The same with casing - just plain coir, coir/verm, as is used for substrate. So I'm glad that you're going for coir.
It sounds as though you're looking at older Teks and threads and I'd recommend also looking at more up to date ones, that are often less complicated and more effective in many ways.

Yup I will be sticking with coir/verm. Seems best for Sub and Casing from everything I've read so far. Highly contam resistant, cheap, and readily available, I see why it's most popular. Here's the link if you care to read it, I thought the thread was interesting.

Absolutely, I'm trying to read just about anything that peaks my interest or seems like it has some beneficial information to cultivation. Frank's tek seemed like it's held up to the test of time with stunning results even still, but there's alway room for improvement/adjustment. Such as him originally using jiffy seed starter as Casing, then revising it to coir/verm. From everything I've read thus far coir/verm are superior, I just had to wonder about manure though, just to be sure.

Alright, a little less than a week in and here's some progress.

Pe6 seems the most aggressive, all the cakes I inoc'd in the center haven't shown anything yet. The lonesome one with micropore tape, I'm not sure if I forgot verm layer or it all combined somehow, but it was one of the ones I called "water logged" but I inoc'd anyways and separated from the rest and seems to be good so far. Some of them aren't showing anything yet, but BBAPE, where I inoc'd looks moist, is this a problem? Its only the BBAPE that look moist at inoc points, or just LITFA and watch? Thanks yall! Peace!

Alright yall, here's an update with the cakes, the pe6 will be up first:

They all have taken off nice, before I left they were colonizing pretty strong, this Friday I will be dunking and placing in their water tub. The rest aren't producing the greatest results, but it may be my own error. The Lipa Yai and the Enigma seem the be colonizing great, but the rest aren't doing too well, maybe too much water, but it appears the bottoms of the ones not doing great are darker and moist, the strains match the agar plates I poured, Enigma, LY, and PE6 grew cultures great and fast, JF, Ghost and BBAPE don't show much on the cultures, kinds just white puddles where I spread the LC but they look almost dry. Anyways, here's the rest of the cakes:

Let me know if I should keep waiting or just toss the ones that aren't producing anything. Kinda want to move on, especially if these agar plates are good, I'd like to start doing grain in bulk monotubs. Thanks yall!
