Too Wet? Too Dry? Too Little FAE?
    #28366914 - 06/20/23 10:16 AM (1 year, 6 months ago)

Hello all!

I've read a lot on here that growing noobs such as myself will overwater the mycelium during the fruiting stage. I've observed something interesting that's led me to believe that I've been /under/watering, and perhaps not providing enough FAE as well.

I've been picking a few mature fruits almost daily for about ten days. Almost every fruit is growing from the sides of the myc pucks, more often from the bottom edge of the sides but very occasionally the top edge.

I was relying on evaporating perlite as the sole provider of humidity at first, but recently I've started lightly misting the pucks.

The peculiar observation I made was: one of the aluminum foil sheets that a puck was sitting on had accidentally dipped below the perlite and when I topped off the perlite with some fresh water, the puck was left sitting in standing water. This puck then had explosive growth compared to the rest of my pucks, exactly in the location where the water was keeping the puck wet.

(the top left corner of this pic)

My other pucks are
- much less active
- fruiting slowly, one or two matures at a time, instead of a synchronized growth like the soaked one

I'm really curious about this, because my instinct is to soak them all in water now, but surely there is a reason that most teks recommend you LIGHTLY mist, if you mist at all.

Also, some of my fruits have hollow stems and I read this can be due to too little FAE. I've been fanning 2 or 3 times a day and I'd be surprised if they've been having too little FAE. Is there a good way to judge this?

Iโ€™d move it to a water tub FWIW first off.
