Shoebox tub help
    #28366183 - 06/19/23 07:33 PM (1 year, 6 months ago)

I'm pretty close to spawn to bulk and went out and bought 2 16QT shoe boxes and one 70qt Box.

I'm going to use munch's shoebox method but I'm unsure if my tubs will get enough FAE with the tubs. I melted 2 holes on each of the opposite sides of the 16QT boxes, which are about 3.5 cm long.

I plan to cover these holes with micropore tape when ready for fruiting and I plan to stack them in the 70qt box with the 16QTbox on the bottom covered but not shut closed and the 16QT box on top open without any lid.

Will this be enough FAE for both of them?

If it isn't should I just go buy a even wider tub then takes of the tops of both of em?

Odd hole placement and not shoeboxes,
but could work of course.
It´s up to your environment how good this will perform, noone can tell you.
Leave the lid on at the top during colonization.
You want some airflow on the big outer tub,
so it would get dry fast.
But why so complicated?
It´s better to place three 6qt shoeboxes in a row,
to keep humidity up all the time without babysitting.
Maybe get some 6qt shoeboxes to place at least two in a row per tub.

My friend I'm confused, why would I want outer tub to have air flow to dry it out?

Isn't that the opposite of what I need?

Too much air flow will dry things out yes, but there should be some rather than none and, if dialed in right, shouldn't cause an issue.

Doesn't the shoebox tub already have gaps so it has air flow?

Or should I flip the lid?

As Goatrider advised, I'd leave the lid on. So long as it's not airtight and there is constant, slight, passive airflow, that should be enough, with not too much risk of drying out the substrate.

I mean the outer tub isn´t sealed,
so there has to be some airflow inside.
If you leave the lid of the top 16qt off,
it will dry out fast.
During colonization,
you don´t want anything with lids off.
