Quick question about BRF cakes
    #28365181 - 06/19/23 07:46 AM (1 year, 6 months ago)

Im about to harvest the last of my 1st flush. The 2nd flush pins are forming so should I dunk and roll again after i harvest the last of my 1st flush?

Hey, I believe that there may already be a thread about this. Seems that you should do it after harvesting your first flush. (The pins forming are part of your next flush)

Hope it helps.

Depends - if your first flush was weak and slow, your brf cake could be dry and in need of a dunk and roll. Check for cracks in the cake or spotty mycelium while you harvest - dry spots sometimes hide under the canopy. If your cake is still soft and almost spongy to the touch it is already saturated with water and dunking will not help.

Appreciate the reply. Ive made the noob mistakes of which included excessive misting. Cakes still got some good weight to em and i have primordia all over. I think to save from having to touch them much im going to maybe just mist heavily with a tbsp of h2o2 in my water, fan and keep it moving. Thanks tho as i didnt know if a dunk n roll was absolutely necessary.

Please don't mist with H2O2. There's no need for it. Dunk and roll as the tek states. There's a reason to follow them.

Yeah, yeah.

No Peroxide. No fanning.

Ok, ok…im fighting myself on this but ill cut out the h2o2 and just simply mist lightly. I will say ive cut back alot on misting and ive noticed more primordia coming in so your guys help works! As always thank you and one day i will get this!

EDIT: cut back on mist AND fanning

Your fanning causes drying, causes you to mist, causes you to fan....vicous unhealthy cycle. Only mist as needed and not on a set schedule. Pay attention to your surface conditions. How are you fruiting, using a water tub, sgfc, fahtlocks?

Yeah, yeah.

I made a sort of hybrid tub lol. Its essentially a sgfc dub tub w/ perlite. All my cakes have made it through theyre first flushes but i probably wont ever get the yields im looking for with this. Im averaging 35gs per cake. Nothing to write home about. Ive got a shoebox w b+ colonizing now. Hoping it turns out alot better.

I'd highly recommend this tek.

It's pretty much the current gold standard for BRF cakes. Very easy to handle requires little maintenance.
