Yea my *not a sponsor so anonymous* LC source has about 80 varieties. Have grown out 10ish and 6 of them were definitely worked and isolated for a while.. clusters, similar harvest times, canopies.. but a few of the varieties were absolutely garbage. This Melmak is from the same company and I'm stoked with the results but yea the PET is shit and I'm sure a few others are too. The worst was Jedi Mine Fuck.. terrible harvests, a few fruits per day, no weight, super slow colonization. Their APE, Jack Frost, Melmak, and even their B+ isolate are all fire. I should just wait until they're soft, ignoring the caps I guess. Tried to print it, think there are some very small spores. Can't clone right now it's too hot for me to grow until fall.. finishing my last shoeboxes until September.

I think they might be sterile as well, never seen pure white gills Harvested before I took the damn picture though. They're Treasure Coast:

I wrapped the shoebox lid with micropore tape just in case something DID sporulate and separated it from my other grows, and a month later came back to these.
My guess is the lack of pinset combined with restricted FAE had the mycelium putting all its energy into these 4 monsters, but the tape I think made the stems long and spindly. Really not sure though, but very excited to clone

I bet a bunch of us are thinking, fuck why did I throw those boxes away as soon as I saw mold? Could have gotten some survivor genetics.

Costa Rica ms. It’s really a slow grower. I thought the big ones would be opened flat by now but they’re not, I want to take a few prints. The pins are growing though. One is smiling at me:

This is what shitty FAE looks like:

I put this and other fahtlocks inside a closed dialed tub thinking it wouldn't affect the FAE bags inside the tub. I just wanted to put them away in a tidy place and put something on top while keeping all cakes in separate FCs.
I was wrong. I removed the tub's lid and kept the ziploc bags just slightly open. The other cakes seem to be doing better now:

I did find a use for some plastic jars that where too big for my PC:

Keeping it with the lid slightly open, and a bit of water at the bottom. We'll see if I need to add some holes.

Yeah. Popcorn is not the move. WBS, you’re up next! Number of fruits isn’t bad but they’re so little. Maybe I didn’t prepare the corn well enough.

I see you guys mentioning oats and rye and wheat. What exactly am I buying when I use those things? I see so many different options, wheat berries, rolled oats, steel cut oats, wheat grain, etc….

Whole-grain grains. Organic is best, but certainly nothing with anti-fungals added. Non-organic will work if no anti-fungals and you wash / strain the grain.
Good family farm with good wheat and rye: https://www.palousebrand.com/collections/buy-bulk-hard-red-winter-wheat-berries
You don't want rice, unless you're doing PF tek. Some people use oats, which are very cheap at feed stores, but some people (including me) don't like using them. Some people use popcorn but I've seen more of those grows contammed than any other grain (I think it's because it's so naturally sweet compared to wheat or rye)
Most people wash and strain their grain at least once before using, wash off some pesticides, dirt, dust, grain casings, etc.
If you live in a rural area, try a feed store
Though I use WBS: Pennington's classic birdseed, which is a mix of milo, milet, wheat, and sunflower seeds. It works well and WalMart carries it (and will mail it if your local store doesn't have it.) It's cheap.
Some grains need boiling before putting in jars, but not WBS. I soak it and strain it 3 to 5 times.

I put at least 2x much that spawn/verm/coir mix in my shoeboxes. That looks like you've only got an inch or two. I do to an inch or two from the top. And I use a trash bag as a liner. I might put more than I need, but you put less than most people use.
Is that using a full quart of spawn? If so it looks like they're wouldn't be room for verm or coir. Some people skip verm, but you at least should use coir.

Those are average size for shoeboxes.
For some reason they seem to look bigger in pictures, I was so disappointed when I figured that out

AKA have you noticed if shrooms grow bigger in monotubs?
I asked that question here last year and the general consensus was no, and that there isn't a difference in yield, main difference being monotubs and 4 shoeboxes is that the monotub looks cooler than 4 shoeboxes.
I've never grown a monotub, but I assumed shrooms would be bigger in one. Maybe more food, bigger shrooms, or bigger mycelium growth, bigger shrooms. Like how a goldfish supposedly grows to carp size if you toss it in a lake. haha.
The biggest shrooms I've grown were grown in a 16 quart tub, the size of 2 shoeboxes, but these were tending tall before that. I was already selecting for tall, based on one mutant.
