Too much light?
    #2835555 - 06/28/04 06:08 AM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Let's say the lights have been left on 24 hours a day the entire time the cakes have been in the terrarium. Is this a bad idea? How many hours a day do I need to leave them on?

I've read the FAQs, I just can't remember...

minimum? A few milliseconds. Recommended? 4-12 hours. Strait 24 hour light is fine aslo. Too bright of light is bad. The only thing they use light for is primordia formation and stem orientation. Once pins form, they don't really need light, but it doesn't hurt either. In some species proper cap formation and coloration are related to light levels. I only have noticed coloration differences in cubensis grown in different light levels, the caps generally develop fine even in total darkness. Eventually gravity will usually be the dominant factor in cap orientation, to eject the spores downward.

Fluorescent lights are being used (lots of blue light), nothing really bright. Lots of pins can be seen, so I didn't really think I had messed up, I was just curious if having less light would be better.
