Okay I've just put 4 or 5 new holes in the top. They grow very quickly I'm noticing.

Also I ordered those spore swabs you mentioned

I'll keep you posted and thanks again man for all the support. Absolute legend!

For sure. You'll probably be harvesting within about a week if I was a betting man.

Nice, just make sure to open them up in the SAB and swab the cap inside it as well to get the cleanest possible swab.

Any time dude.

Hi, just a quick update. So this is my first flush 3 days after seeing pins:

I'm thinking they have 3-4 days left but they're ready when they're ready.

I'm gonna harvest them when the vales break, but should I harvest them individually (when each is ready) or harvest them all at once and be set for my next flush?

Also 2nd flushes are usually better yeah?

I think they'll put on a good bit more weight but even if they don't...well it's a start. I'll find something else nice on agar hopefully and I'm trying different things with my MYA agar recipe this weekend. Different brands of ingredients and slightly different methods; I'm boiling my ingredients to a froth before PC'ing. Also I'm trying nutritional yeast powder instead of flakes, and I'm using 1g instead of 0.25g. I hope I get better results as it has been holding me back.

If it doesn't work I'll try a PDA recipe.

Anyways, I hope your all well and any advice and/or feedback is welcomed.

Harvesting individually or all at once is a personal preference.  With MS genetics it can be difficult to harvest all at once since there is usually no defined end to a flush and mushrooms grow at different rates. If you have the patience and energy, I like harvesting as they break so I don't end up with spores everywhere.

Generally as you go from flush to the next one, fruit size will noticably increase in my experience. The pinset may or may not. It is also important to remember that a lot of the pictures of huge fruits are from later flushes and big canopies require good genetics and great conditions.

I think this is a good start and your surface conditions are on point. I'd be happy with what you've accomplished. I'd also recommend picking a clone or two to take from this. Just having a culture that is guaranteed to produce and is less of a crapshoot genetic wise is great. With MS to agar you can do 5 transfers and end up with a culture that just sucks or doesn't produce at all. Not to say some MS grows can't be better than cloned though.

Keep us updated on the agar. I will say that I have weak growth on every plate of mine. I use 8g agar and 8g LME to 400ml. I bought some yeast a while ago and was planning on using 6g LME with the yeast to see the difference, but I have yet to run out of plates from this batch.

That said, even with wispy growth that looks nothing like all of the great dense healthy growth you see on agar here, I have yet to have a problem with it colonizing grain or contamming out. My growth does look a lot like the ones you post. So if you can't nail it down completely, just keep on trucking.

Thanks man that's what I'll do, take some clones off of these and work on my agar recipe.

I've got the monotub running too & 3 other buckets with these genetics so I should have enough shrooms for myself. I could just focus on agar for a while I'm not sure. I'll keep you posted though 100%.

As for the Agar recipe I use the same:

10g agar agar
10g LME
0.25 nutr. yeast
500 ml water

Some of my earlier work with agar I actually had thicker/better results. I think I used 0.5g nutritional yeast but I'll be upping that to 1g of the powdered nutritional yeast.

I also meant to ask, I took the weight of my fruiting container/bucket  when I put spawn to it. Should I spray it with water back up to it's original weight after each flush?

Great stuff Way!!

Looking good OP. Great to have enough on hand to journey out and work on or refine other things in the myc world. Keep up the good work.

Yeah that works. Pretty smart too.

If you add all that water and it doesn't fully absorb, make sure you drain whatever doesn't get absorbed though after a bit.

Hi I thought I'd update the thread to show my second flush.

So this went to this in 15hrs:

I pulled 254g wet from the second flush, which I think is good for 1 qrt spawn/2 qrts bulk:

Here's some more pictures but I'm very happy with this:

The first flushes for my other 3 buckets are coming through too:

Thanks for checking in and I hope your all well. Input is appreciated!

Very nice Jmac! Id certainly be happy with those numbers.
I only use tubs but those buckets look nice as well. Wish I had more input for you outside of keep kicking ass.

Hey, your flushes look great. Can I ask what you did to prep them for the second flush? I just harvested some and haven't done this in a very long time. I want to be sure I have great consecutive flushes as well! Any info about the process would be greatly appreciated!

Hi ZM213, this was my first attempt at spawning to bulk so I'm not very experienced but I'll explain the process I used this time.

After the 1st flush I tidied up the surface of any aborts and small pins to make room for the next flush. Some people say to leave any new pins as this is part of your next flush, so I'm not sure if that's 100% best/current practice. I then soaked the substrate for 4-6hrs in room temperature water that I had previously boiled and let cool. Sterile conditions were over after I mixed my spawn to bulk in the monotub but I still like to keep things clean where I can. Then I drained the water and put the bucket/tub back into fruiting conditions.

Again I'm not sure if dunking your cakes is best/current practice; some people give them a light spray or nothing at all. I think the idea is to get it back to the same weight and similar surface conditions as when it was first spawned. I then followed more experienced forum members advice in packing down the sides of the substrate to reduce pinning and didn't see any by the end of the 2nd flush.

As others have said to me, I recommend checking out the more recent teks from experienced trusted cultivators, and maybe starting your own threads with pictures too.

I hope this helps and good luck.

Thank you so much! I am trying different methods but it can be time consuming and expensive to experiment, obviously. I'm having some luck with second flushes and others are molding so it is a bit frustrating trying to figure out the exact ins and outs of this process. I'll definitely start a new thread as I have read a lot of posts but not getting the exact answers I need. Thanks again!

I know what you mean, costs do all add up and you don't want to be sitting with equipment you don't need. Nothing beats having the right tools for the job though, and I'm still putting mine together. I'm almost there I think, but theres always new pieces of equipment catching my eye.

I think I'm about at the same place as you, trying to get my second flushes right and observing varying results. It's a fun hobby all said, good luck mate and hoping for your success.
