Substrate increase to Yield increase?
    #2835266 - 06/28/04 02:50 AM (12 years, 6 months ago)

I was just wondering how big of a yield incrase occurs as you increase substrate?

Say I make a casing with 2 pints of popcorn...and do 50/50. On average, I achieve about 15-20 grams dried yield.

Then, I do an identical casing, popcorn....50/50...but instead I do 2 quarts? What would projected yield be?

Im not really asking for specific numbers (I realize that would be near impossible to determine without a controlled experiment)....but Im asking whats the yield increase when you increase subtrate?

For instance....if 2 pint gives me 15-20...would 4 pint give me 30-40 under the same conditions? Or does it not work that way?

I'd imagine water plays just a big a factor.....after the water runs out, your fruits run out....

So in theory, I suppose there is a set amount of substrate you should use per area, until you reach a point that its useless to use more. Ig uess I just need to experiment on my own

The more substrate u use the bigger your shrooms wil get. And yes that means the yield increases as well. Kinda logical, I think yields improve as you use more substrate.

[offtopic]
Why do americans use measurements such a pints quarts 3/4 inch etc etc its confusing plz stop it :p

so given the fact that more water makes for bigger fruits (along with nutrients, of course). Has anyone tossed around the idea of putting a layer of those gardening crystals UNDER the substrate layer of the CASING?????

If you double your substrate, in theory you should double your yields given the same biological efficiency.

More nutrients equals bigger fruits given the ideal water content. Simply saturating the casing layer or substrate obviously would not produce larger fruits (they may weigh more, but only because the water content is higher). In GGMM Stamets mentions using water crystals for a casing layer in addition with vermiculite.
