I saw this video about butting vitamin A genes from carrots in yeast (interesting channel btw) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHNPnO5UOYQ and thought that maybe we could do the same but with genes from shrooms. the article here (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28763571/) talks about how psilocybin is synthesized in the mushrooms, and all we need to do is take the genes for those enzymes and put them in yeast so that we can make shroom yeast. Shroom yeast would be great because once we have made it once, we can grow as much as we want by adding normal sugar and then sending it to anyone. This is great because once we have it has a few advantages to normal mushrooms.
1. it is easy to make, just add water and it will replicate. 2. you can make bread and beer from it which doesn't taste bad and nobody will know you are taking psychoactive drugs. 3. Much faster than growing mushrooms 4. Much cheaper since you don't need all the materials for the various mushroom TEKs, just a container and some water + sugar.
I don't have the materials, time, or money to do this project, but I know some of you guys may have more resources and see the same benefits I do in this project. This also only has to be done once, then samples of yeast can be shared with other people who can grow more, and now mushroom yeast will be readily available. Modifying yeast to add other drugs such as THC and CBD from weed may also be an interesting project that will be beneficial to the community.

Thank you for posting the source, I'll take a look into it maybe this weekend. It's quite an interesting topic, I've heard of yeast that produces morphine but if we could have a yeast that produces alkaloids of a shroom that be ground breaking.

Yes it is real that genetically modified brewers yeast can produce psylocybin from sugar. They are just not available for public yet (1). If also a yeast can produce THC will be perfect I am not aware of that kind of yeast. I will be heaven if I brew psylocybin in one liquid medium and Thc in another liquid medium.
