Well it could be the strain, the PF-Tek, or your environmental conditions. If you want big fruits, go for big casings. It's that easy.

Depth is more productive, but you need at least the same amount of surface area. The greater surface area, the greater the pinset. The greater the depth (within reason, say 10-12" max), the greater nutrients for said pinset...

Indeed, I think it also helps giving them a multi substrate instead of just rye or straw. (you like to eat different too).

I'm suprised no one has mentioned strain, you didn't say what strain it was and that can make a big difference.

Often times too the first flush will have so many pins that none will get huge like you see in later flushes.

The strain is EQ . The odd thing is that one of my cakes was birthed a few days after the others and now its pinning . The pins on this one are huge compared to what the other ones were , I hope they turn out to be monsters .

I was a little let down by my first flush , there were about 30 mushrooms and if they had been fat and tall I would have yielded alot more . Just dunked and double end cased and they say second flushes are better so we'll see in a few days . ( I now have access to a digital camera so I'll be posting pics of my second flush for those who are interested )
