Germinating San Pedro
    #2834216 - 06/27/04 07:40 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

I've had some seeds in a clay pot with commercial cactus mix for about 3 weeks now - there's a sheet of saran wrap over it and a window-screen on top for extra shade and to hold the saran on.

The question is how often I should mist the surface?

You want to keep the surface moist at all times. 3 weeks is enough time that some should have come up. You don't bury those seeds, you surface sow and maybe just sprinkle 1/16" of fine soil over them or you can leave them on the surface. Any deeper and they may not come up. You don't need a lot of light at this stage. Once they come up give them indirect light, not full sun. Open the saran wrap gradually over a few days period to let them get used to lower humidity after the seeds are done sprouting.

You're using a 400W lamp and they haven't even germinated yet?
That is huge overkill

How long from sowing to getting a good finished product?

It finishes when you want it to. Once it reaches 15" or 16" height, you can cut it and prepare it. Takes about 2 years to get 15" i believe.
