2023 MERCEDES AMG E53 CABRIOLET

Any gear heads have thoughts on this vehicle? The mate wants one and it looks pretty neat. I swore I'd never buy a brand new car but he wants to get one in his lifetime at least once he said.
I just saw an ad for a LUCID all electric car that looks really neat too, but haven't delved into the details on them. I talked him out of a BMW at least.

I am no expert, but that car will be wicked fun to drive! That much, I DO KNOW! Mercedes handle so well, and a 2023 amg would be sick!

He ordered it already. nappa leather interior, 20inch wheels, upgrade headlights. I can't wait to drive it. They didn't have one on the lot so I drove the e350. 1st time I ever drove a mercedes actually.

You and your mate will totally love it! I can only imagine how quick the AMGs are. I had a basic c240 a long time ago and even that was fun as hell!

Nice car T-rex. I had a used AMG C43 (smaller much cheaper than the E53) and it was great ride. Not the sportiest car, but quick enough with exceptional comfort/ride. In my experience with lux sports coupes/sedans, they are never quite as good handling as one expects, but make up for it with a luxurious ride compared to cheaper cars designed for quickness.

I drove a lucid not long ago, some guy brings one into work and I didn't get to drive it fast but was nice to drive!
Supposedly it's from someone that was competing with Tesla.

That 350 was a 4 cylinder and had a little pep, I bet the straight inline 6 will be better.

I was looking at used hardtop versions. Nice low mileage AMG ones going for like $55k around me. Very nice car, I want the four door. I hate DSG's though, so I am kind of on the fence. Unfortunately there aren't many true manual options left. I might end up with another VW wagon and a six speed. My current one at 150k miles is a champ though. Not a spot of rust, 49mpg the other day, steering is tight, tire wear is good. What is there to complain about? If I get the most recent job I applied for, I might go for an E53 though. As is, I will stick with the paid off JSW.

It is a frivolous purchase but the mate was adamant about getting a new car "just once at least". Darnit! The lucid looks pretty cool to me. It also seems like the E53 will drop 54% value in 5 years, but that's still going to be around 50 then. Could it become a collector type car since they stop production on them after this year? I had a 1985 VW cabriolet, loved it.

But then it will jump in value in 50 years when gasoline driven cars become obsolete

LOL! Actually we are going to use the money from the sale of the property in CO to pay for it in full. The property was given to us by his parents, so it will actually be an almost free car. Minus the money we've spent on taxes and upkeep which has been below 10 grand in the last 8 years. People are starting to look at it again since it's spring and warm enough to drive up to the mountains where it is. It's really close to the royal gorge so we might get around 200, asking 250. 8 acres and water, electric already installed. Listed it last summer for 300. Dropped it to 250 this year.
It's a buried water tank that has to be filled but those things are in place so whoever buys doesn't have to go through getting it done. Also has a huge propane tank on it. It's a single wide 2/1 but it's OK for what it is. The parents paid about 20 grand for 11 acres and the trailer back in 2010'ish. Dad sold 3 acres to a neighbor a few years after they bought it. I'm amazed we can ask 250. We're thinking it'll be 200g minimum.

I'm almost scared to drive it, and then there's the 1st time I see a scratch on it, yikes! At least we have a covered garage with cams in it on the property here.

If you have full coverage who cares about a scratch? Lol
Edit: personally I think it would add character

You know we will have full. Mate is a VP in insurance. Must get the extended when we buy, why the fuck not if going that far on a car. It's like there's a pleather option for the interior, why would you cheap out at that point? For an extra 10g you get nappa leather, upgraded headlights, and better looking wheels and a few other options. Still comes to a total under 100g . Merc did chintz on the free maintenance stuff that other high end cars offer, but they only do a couple oil changes and a couple of tune ups, so nothing spectacular anyway.

Thanks! I'm very nervous about driving it but excited at the same time. We discussed it and I made sure it was something he really wanted and could fit in the budget. it's very surreal to me still.

Theyre meant to be driven and enjoyed. I'm personally not one to think about the insane depreciation or worrying about a scratch or putting miles on it or blowing the thing up if it absolutely screws. Theres very few things i get enjoyment out of in this fucked up life but going insanely fast in a beautiful car is one the few

true, I never even drove a merc until we test drove one a few months ago. Basically it is just a car, but the mate insisted on wanting to get a nice car for once and I talked him out of a bmw. the resale value on a merc holds up well considering all car depreciate once they leave the lot really.

Plus I'm at the age where I don't rag on cars anymore. I drive fast sometimes but baby them more than I used to. I'll never "punch it" for instance. I've pushed my 2016 lacross to about 110 but only briefly to see how it drove. I stay within 5 miles over the limit mostly these days.

I'm about to go back to big suv. Fast cars are just a waste especially when you live in some pussy state where they just take your license away for nothing on the OPEN road. I'm sorry thought was America wtf kinda freedom is that. So basically we can't have nice things in this country any more like a 200mph car. Hell recently on the local news we have to hear about ppl getting pulled over driving 120mph. I mean thats a normal cruising speed for folks with modern cars but apparently that scares all the mighty moms who are to scared to drive a reasonable speed in 2024. So it's like wtf is the point of buying a 200mph car all it will do is get you in trouble with the law or worse. I don't even care about that gas thing when u burn just as much going 100 and whatever as u do in some these trucks doing like 80. It is a big wake up call when u realize 120 gets u on the news. Big waste if money and if they take ur license away ur gonna have to like your self by driving the thing off a cliff or worse
