But the underdeveloped pins and upturned means lack of oxygen or did I get this wrong?

Oh, and no holes either.

For this application and with this tek, a cracked lid is all you need. They won't run out of air, they just need a lil passive air exchange via cracked lid.

Good stuff everybody
Finished out my first flush with this tek. Got about 5 decent sized fruits from my 4 weird blobby GT cakes. Some of the blobs developed caps and turned into mutants . I really should've cloned that one on the left nice and fat and turned out to be .5g dry, but something about that MSS wasn't right.
A day after harvesting those the rest of them were ready. The B+ cake in the middle was the star of the show with a nice cluster and no blobbing. I'll be focusing on that culture for my first attempt at grain to bulk.

Total yield from the 4 GT cakes was 10g dried and 3.2g from the single B+ cake. Pleased with my results from first PF cakes/WT tek grow. Next up: 6 cakes of Ecuador are 100% and 3 days into consolidating - birthing later this week.

Howdy, I have some questions about the water and didn’t notice in this thread. (My bad if I’m posting incorrectly as I only see option to reply to previous post). For background I switched my stalled cakes to water tub from my SGFC.
Is there an ideal amount of water for bottom of tub? How often does water need to be changed? Do people add anything to the water to prevent bacteria growth, like peroxide or something?

Not exactly ideal amount, just a couple of inches so the entire bottom is full of water and enough so it won't evaporate in a day or two. I usually use 1/2 pint PF jars to sit my cakes on so they are out of the water, so I make sure the water goes up about half way on the jar. There's a photo in my gallery to see what I mean.
I change the water after each round of fruiting. So every couple of weeks or so.
I don't put anything in the water and it always stays clear. Just change it every couple of weeks.

So I’m at 14 days and still no sign of pins. Do the cakes look a bit dry? I’m misting about once a day. There are still some tiny droplets on the surface.

Got some others in another water tek that started in a sgfc that just had their best 2 shrooms picked at nearly 6 weeks. They have been in the water tek tub for 3.5 weeks. Surely that’s excessive.
The temp in the room is ok during the day but I have an oil heater on during the night as it’s a but cool. Probably about 65 in the day and 70 at night.

Golden teacher. There were inoculated from a lc syringe. What does the blobbing mean? I honestly have no idea.

Do you have to roll in coir? Can you roll the cakes in verm like you would with a SGFC?

No, you can use either, whichever is available.

General question about this tek:
Is it absolutely necessary to case in verm or coir. If so, is one preferred over the other? I've tried scrolling through all the posts on this thread, and the answer seems to be "meh, whatever works best."
Thanks for the tek, Mateja!
Edit: Just saw the post from yesterday that either works. Still questioning whether it's completely necessary to roll, though.

All mine have been done using verm my opinion keep in mind I’m just a frog on a log but rolling in coir you might get better results as for surface conditions

It’s not “absolutely necessary “ but if you soak the cake overnight in the fridge then roll in verm it will probably do a little bit better and be a little more resistant from contamination.
I’ve even fruited grain jars without top casing or anything but they never really do “ great”… these things are alive and want to survive!
