Casing teks
    #2832015 - 06/27/04 12:47 AM (12 years, 5 months ago)

My first batch of mushrooms are currently incubating at 30 C (while I'm sitting here freezing at 13 C) in my little terrarium. 6 short 1/2 pint BRF GT's, 5 tall 1/2 pint millet GT's, and a honey/water GT (for syringes).

I've read up on a lot of the casing and humidifying teks, but I'm left wondering what do most people consider the best in terms of productivity and contamination? If money weren't an issue would you be using a cool mist? Would it be the hose tek? Would perlite combined with an aquarium heater cause too much humidity? (It'd be too cold without the heater!)

Perhaps this could be considered a poll (or popularity contest), everyone vote for your favourite casing tek!

no matter how much money I got I will only use a mister and rubbermaid/sterlite storage bins....in the past I put smaller casings inside and misted down the sides but I would only do bulk if I was still growing...and just use the bin the bulk goes in for its humidity...I've used a coolmist and I thought it was a piece of a trash...."keep it simple stupid"

One thing I have learned is less is more.

Dont go overboard with the depth of your casing layer, if you remember that, its simple.

Personally I like pure coir, and over time I have used less and less of it, with better results, casing layers hold water they are not food, dont use to much.

As for what I woul do with  more money????

Hydrotron/Geolite(instead of perlite)
A cool mist wired to a timer, small computer fans for air, also wired up to a timer.

And a "wet" incubator (humidified) , other then that, nothing else woul be different, just alot more tubs huming away
