It's more an aesthetic thing to be honest. I don't know if there's much evidence that activated charcoal agar has anti microbial properties, as some maintain. If it does then that's fine. If not, I'm just looking forward to seeing the contrast between the mycelium and the charcoal. I'll definitely update, including if I get crappy jars again.

I'm still trying to work out how to get it looking cleaner, with a bit less sediment on the side of the jars after PC'ing, but looking forward to seeing mycelium on these:

Now this is just excellent! I had no idea, had never even thought of this. Thank you.

Yw!
They served me well while I was still using mason jars.

I know that at some point I will benefit from moving on from mason jars but I just like em. I like the look of them. Clear lids too now...love that.

Honestly, they are the best pre-pour container I've used besides actual petris. My biggest gripes with them is they take up a lot of space and the normal 8oz wide mouths are not wide enough. The latter gets solved with the type you're using though, just could not get my hands on that type for a decent price.

I hear you on that. They were crazy expensive for a while and still are in some places. That's another reason I like them - that I managed to snag them for a decent price. They feel almost like trophies from a successful hunt at times and not getting screwed by the price gougers.

Started an outdoor bed of ps.cyan. I didn't feel like cleaning all the rocks from the dirt so they will stay there. I also put some seeds in the dirt around it to hide it a bit when they grow in. Hopefully I see some mushrooms this fall.

Wish I had a nice outdoor plot to do something like this; unfortunately my apartment doesn’t have much of a yard and the owner is picky.

I have a lot of nosey neighbors so that is why I added flower seeds to it. I heard you can do them in containers and bring them indoors when needed. I'm also going to be starting a azure bed in the woods where no one ever goes. It's a couple miles deep through briars and swamp. Maybe you got an area that you can find something like that near you.

That’s a good idea. I’ve got some big opaque storage tubs from Home Depot, maybe I’ll put them outside behind the garage with like 1” of CV/topsoil with some veggies thrown in there
