I tried using some of my vape mod paraphernalia to heat #11 scalpel blades too, but failed the few times I tried. Same with any other attachment, like a punch head, etc.. Only wire works good, and everything else is pretty much detected as a short using regulated mods. A mechanical vape mod would probably explode if not even more careful.

Can only grind the blades down with a rotary tool so good, and then they melt when you almost get it right, but is barely trimmed up to thin in one section. They would need to be machined IMO to work right. I did get it to heat up pretty good once, so I know it kinda works.

Suppose I could almost do everything with kanthal/ss/nichrome wire though, and make multiple kinds of pics/multi tool attachments to screw on. Heck, even a straight poker attachment I'm guessing would be handy enough to do most the work needed.

I gave up though, and working on induction sterilizing methods instead for now.. One coil can heat all the tools, but isn't as cool as a full set of portable handheld electronic tools would be IMO.

Here's a gadget I am thinking of getting... A soil moisture sensor.

We know that humidity gauges are pointless, right? They die easily in prolonged high humidity. But it might be interesting to know what the hydration level of the substrate (or PF cake) is. And those sensors are cheap and reliable.

Since I already have a weather station that supports these sensors, I can add one easily. And if it turns out to be a dumb idea, I can put it in a planter and use it there.

I have those polypropylene petris too.

If you can defeat condensation, they are adequately clear... But barely. I have seen other polypropylene containers that are much more clear.

I am trying cheap glass petris next.

I have defeated condensation in these pp5 petris. I leave them unwrapped in my drawer until inoculation.

Have only had one plate contam before use. Only been doing it this way since the start of the year. I've done around 300 plates now with only 1 getting contam before being inoculated by me. And that one plate was handled a lot, for reasons.

Some sat for a couple of months cause I was lazy and they started to dry out but no contam

I have cheap glass petris and they get condensation just like anything else.

I didn't meant to imply I am trying glass because it doesn't get condensation. I am trying glass because it is more clear.
