These are mazapatecs, much smaller than I expected for some reason, and when dehydrated they're even tinier, like needle-thin. Maybe the second flush will be a bit bigger. Anyone have any input as to whether or not I NEED to soak the cakes overnight, or if I can just continue misting heavily for a day or two? They're in shoeboxes with the lids removed in EZ dialed monos.
My first grow was also MAZ. Mine were about the same size, but you got a much better flush! Well done fungus farmer!

I personally mist really heavy for a few days with no trouble. Both methods work. Great harvest! My maz was also kinda small, but the yields were good.

Honestly I like that they're tiny, they're cute. What has your experience been with regards to potency and effects with mazas? I've never had them before, but something made me feel like I should start with this strain.

I’m so stoked! Think I may have gone a little light on the casing layer though because I wasn’t expecting to see colonization so soon.

Oh and this jar is still doing its thing. It looks really cool but the temptation to smash the glass so they can grow better is really tough to ignore lol.

Nice! Liner and casing layer are unnecessary, so don’t worry. Looks like good compression, but maybe a bit light on the coir. What ratio did you use? High ratio will generally give you faster colonization, but smaller yields.
Thanks dude I really appreciate it!
So I was starting with hydrated coir and I found a ratio on here that was 60/35/5 so I did 6 cups coir 3.5 verm and .5 gypsum. I wasn’t 100% if that was correct but it felt close enough. What ratio should I be using?
This is an edit: Sorry I didn’t read the whole conversation before replying. I was going for 1:2 but it felt like I was going heavy so it ended up being more like a 1:1.5

For future reference - Gypsum doesn't do anything much for cubes, if you're growing cubes that is. It's use is somewhat outdated. You can leave it out entirely and the verm as well and just use plain coir. If your coir is a bit too much over field capacity, then verm is handy to throw in there if you have some, but it's more of a personal preference thing than something that most would need. It can be helpful to think of the substrate for cubes as being primarily a water reservoir, rather than the main food for the mycelium. So additives don't do anything particularly useful. The food is more the grain, or whatever you have as the basis for your spawn.

Don't be fooled by they're size some of the more visually potent ones look like pans once dried . Subsequent flushes will get bigger (if there's adequate h20, since those things are probably closer to 94-5% water)
Was it ms or did you take any transfers on agar?? Maz has some wild fluctuations in phenotypes they can get 100+grams on 2-5 flushes but not as often as other "substrains"
Good looking canopy tho.
Thicker substate will give you more consistent larger fruits( 3.5" minimum 4-5" better)
I usually soak sbs a couple hours - over 24hrs if I forgot about not much noticeable difference over 6 hours.. Be sure to weight it down and cover with lid, drain rinse with clean water drain well .... after a day or three check top layer for dryness if not obviously wet give a good misting. Keep pooling on bottom to a minimum.

Don’t mind the horrific bruising on the cake. I apparently sprayed too hard unless im being trolled.
I think I have a deformity though check it out. You could kind of see what looked like a cap tucked up under it but now it’s pretty much invisible. I see another couple pins in here that don’t seem to be growing like the others. It’s pretty cool.
Also I’m fairly certain this is bruising because it showed up one day immediately after spraying and was bright blue and hasn’t gone away since nor grown at all or shown any kind of changes at all. It was definitely blue before but now it appears like a greyish blue but it’s definitely still blue. I’d hate to infect my whole closet if I’m wrong.
