These are my best looking green tops I've grew so far. (Hobbit edit - Nats for sure)
-------------------- If you've never grown mushrooms before, here's how you start. First, follow the Updated PF Tek, put 4 holes in jar lids not 1, and use a water tub! The next move is Shoebox Tek. After that you move onto grains, agar, monotubs. Agar is easy, just do it. Other useful links - Picture guide for how things should look and proper surface conditions guide Growing APE or PE? The lady at the container store gave me a look like she knew damn well what I was doing with 12 shoeboxes. I bought em wearing work clothes covered in paint and a patterned winter hat. Not their usual customer base I guess
I bet it was the multispore candle that gave you away after they rang up those tubs

Dedicated coir buckets, never used for anything else, and I'm pretty paranoid about not introducing anything to my coir when I'm scooping it out of the bucket. I try to avoid letting hyrdated coir sit for too long, especially buckets I've already opened and dipped into. I often fail spectacularly on that point, and end up leaving coir sitting for way longer than intended. I've seen water mold and shit grow on coir that I left sitting for too long and/or over-hydrated. Still ended up using it 9 times out of 10. Still can't credibly claim a case of tub-killing contamination that was definitely from the coir. When my spawn is truly on-point, the condition of the coir doesn't really seem to matter.
Everything in biology is a question of degree.
Look at what this ancient neglected spawn jar did with almost no FAE:

 Word!
But what I have noticed is "you get what you pay for". It all comes down to the actual brick quality before ever being reconstituted. The shitty shit can and will turn clean spawn into a cesspool quicker than even questionable spawn on weeks old wet coir that is good quality .
