So back in 2011 a Groupe buy of Shiitake cultures from Aloha Medicinals happened & Lipa killed it making everyone involved slants.
Dragonaut was one of the members involved & stored his amazing in their original packaging in the refer.
He intrusted them to me to breath back life. Finally I am getting 34 to leap off.
Original thread https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/14756674#14756674
Will they still fruit ?
Looking for a couple experienced members to sign on to this task of finding out.
Maby 5 to 10 members willing to try out 2 to 5 of each. Sure different fruiting conditions & Temps freezing substrate ect will effect results & vigor so overlap is good.
You will receive all 34 If you wish, just please run a couple of the lesser known along with the 3782, 75 ect.
In the coming weeks I will prepare .5 ml sets of ependorfs but would like this amazing community to help try em & see if they are still viable.
A complete, updated list will be posted this weekend.
Post here if intrested & when ready I will prepare vials. Prob 2 to 3 weeks as they just literally leaped off this am & a clean transfer to a new nutritional plate is needed.
I will scratch out those that did not make the Journey by this weekend.

Blast from the past. I would think they would have lost some vigor not being in cryo but it will be cool to see. Good luck

I could toss my hat in this and run a few strains. 4-5 would be reasonable in the grow space I have.

OK so I got a little behind on this project but wrapped up the culture aspect this Morning!
4015 & UK6 did not make the cut as if they refuse to show me vigor on multiple agar mixes their is no reason to continue with a lame horse.
I have 5 sets of .5 ependorfs to share & will be back in town early next week.
All cultures are now slanted 4 different ways 1 grain master of each colonizing to knock up 1 HWFP bag & 200 wood dowells. Fresh plate of each in cold storage to come back to if vigor in my environment at my Temps is achieved indoor.
20 scrub Oaks just fallen & 8k wood dowells ordered for outdoor logs
Dug out the laminator to make a weather resistant lable for each log pile.

If I recall correctly, the "missing" 720 culture from the original project was a late arrival, and was not shipped with the rest of the collection. To the best of my knowledge, I had discarded it after some time along with other things stored separately that did not appear to age well. Sorry about that.

Is there some info on each of these? I’ve got about ten or so onto agar, but was wondering if some are better suited to indoor vs log grows. I know there are warm weather strains, but not which is what. I can find no info on the aloha site. Wondering if there is some info out there already, or if we’ll just discover as we go.

Just got more agar made and started down this rabbit hole myself.. With little results.
Would love to start a few cultures just based on visual assessment, but do run pretty constant grow conditions and would prefer to apply effort to better suited candidates ... Especially before I give a whack at some log stacks outside!

Five of these went to grain today. All will be fruited on supplemented sawdust blocks in my tent. I’ll try to get another five to grain next week. Anyone else making any progress?

I'm still on agar with two of them. My plan is to start 2 per week on agar and either slant or liquid culture each variety as they go to grain for longer storage. This way I don't fill all my incubation space and I can have a nice steady fruiting trial down the road, rather than bombarding my grow room all at once.
