What is everyone's preferred storage method? Vacuum sealing or airtight container with desiccant? Anyone do overkill and vacuum seal with desiccant?

Cracker dry, ziplock bag and try to get some of the air out. I don't like vacuum sealing because it usually crushes them.

I was looking at these rubbermaid plastic airtight containers. Easy to separate small amounts of varieties and stackable. Throw some desiccant in those.

I just found out that oxygen absorbers are a thing. They're like silica gel packets but they remove oxygen instead of water vapor. There's a bunch on amazon.
I think these may do more for your shrooms than the silica gel, but might as well use both.

silica gel absorbs moisture from air not oxygen, oxygen-absorber absorbs oxygen not moisture, you will be needing both only if you are planning on long term storage in which case you will have to change them every couple of months

That's why I said "use both," and I thought we were talking about long term storage. I don't think it will need to be changed that often if it's in a sealed jar. If it's just in a bag of some sort then that's a different story. In a jar I would expect at least a year, but it needs testing.

Yeah I saw those, too, on a thread where a guy was talking about freeze dried mushrooms being stronger and he uses those. But like pesa said moisture absorbtion seems the more important of the 2. But, it wouldn't be a bad idea to use both for long term. Let's see how much yield I get and how strong they are and then I'll make a decision on if I need the long term solution lol.
Btw, not only is a freeze dryer crazy expensive, but I bet part of the reason that person thinks it's stronger is because freeze drying removes more moisture, so you're eating more mushroom by weight that way. Just a thought.

I think the gummy bear idea but I'll keep them in a candy jar on my desk at work, so as not to arouse suspicion and keep the kids safe at the same time.
Seriously, maybe some containers with both the o2 absorbers and the desiccant, just to see. They're both cheap enough so what the hell, right?

24 hours in dehydrator at 160f. Cram as much as possible in a quart mason jar with standard canning lid. Use vacuum hand pump to remove air. Sometimes with silica and O2 absorber packets, but the vacuum is enough. I have used powder stored this way 2.5 years later with no detectable loss of potency. Baba Yaga has tested up to 5.5 years.
For the record, the oxygen absorbing packets work by the action of binding the O2 in air to iron filings (or similar), which requires moisture to create the reaction. So if the mush is truly kept dry, they don't do much. But if you are opening the jars on occasion and don't have access to your vacuum pump, they can help.
The vacuum pump doesn't crush the mush in jars, but it it does in those vac seal bags.

I overkill with vacume sealing and packet. Break them down to ounces and use the pulse feature on sealer to remove as much air as I can without crushing the dried fruit. Nice little package, easily labels and people always love when I hand them one. Lol

I really like this. Thanks! And thank you for the detail about the o2 removal reaction. This makes it easier to decide they are superfluous when using desiccant (and especially with vacuum.)

I really need help here:
I'm a personal user of Amanita Muscaria, not manufacturing. I just purchased 600g of closed caps from reputable seller but I didn't realize that freezing is a bad idea.
I'm not gonna make the whole thing at once so I'd like to know if there's any antidotes or solutions that I can keep such a large amount without it getting weaker.
I'm using these caps for shimmering in Acid Bath, do it goes straight from freezer to boil; this is how I did it until now. I live in NYC where temperatures are about to rise slowly but in anycase, if I want to get benefits after 1 year, what do I do? Does the fact that I'm trying to convert to Muscimol make freezing a lesser issue?
Please assist.

Freezing is not really a problem for properly dried mush. The danger comes from moisture due to condensation. If you keep your frozen material inside the dry container and let it heat up to room temperature before opening so that no moisture enters or forms on the inside of the container, there should be no concern about potency loss. If they do get wet and you use all of them immediately or toss anything unused back into a dehydrator, you still should not have any potency loss. Wet storage is the enemy of potency over time.
