Ambrose Subtrops - 2nd flush. Much more natural looking caps. I've also let them sit in the rain for a few hours and that seemed to really help the cap development for some reason. Maybe it didn't but I have no control.

Oh, and still no spores.

At the risk of sounding a little racist.. man those gills are white. I like my gills a little on the brown side. If not genetic, I regress to my FAE paranoia.

I still have the print from that one. Kept it just because it looked so cool with the tendrils where the curls were.
Thanks for all the comments on the earlier pics!!! I really need to get some updated pics after all these years lol. I've grown them a few times since but haven't done a photo shoot. Got some of Workman's newest going now so maybe I can restock the photo album soon.. being a relative term.

Definitely genetic. My Melgo grow got similar amounts of FAE and dropped like mad.

Which ones did you dose again? Loved that trip report btw. Glad I'm not the only one with visitations. Subtrops may be my favorite of all time. I just don't get trips like that with anything else.
AND my god these things retain potency for a very long time. Gave some ten year old fruits to a friend and they said it was the most potent mushroom they have ever had. I was worried they wouldn't be potent at all lol. Might have to take a dip into that bag myself soon.

Maybe they like wet caps? I misted mine directly on top of the caps and they didn't mind and got that nice caramel color, like the stuff in the wild growing between the grass

I only did a proper dose of these Ambrose subs from my previous grow which aborted. I didn't get a "visitation" tho, that was someone else Altho I did share a quick report here somewhere. It must have been sometime in November IIRC.

Is this guy ready for printing? This is my first time growing subs, I want to at least get a print (even if its a partial print) from my first grow. I have no idea if this guy is ready yet or if I should wait longer. Its day 3 since its cap curled upwards. I dont see any visible spores on the gills. I also dont want to pluck this guy yet until hes ready to blow his spore load since hes the biggest one I got on my first flush. All the other fruits are absolutely tiny. Half an inch tall and practically the size of cube aborts.

No not yet, wait until you see spores. I gave up on printing and just started swabbing these but I’ve got a lineage that makes small curled caps. Mine were about three weeks from pins to a decent amount of spores.

That print got moved from the working collection to the collectors case several years ago... and now I can't find the case!
It's ok.. it's ok. I'm sure it will turn up during spring cleaning. And I do have a few more in the working collection. I'll add one to the agar project pile lol. This pic is a top fruiting project mostly for the Zapo thread, but there's some Subtropicalis from two sources mixed in there.
LC and 4 on right - Zapotecorum (Barrerae) Lower left - Natalensis Mid & mid left - Subtropicalis (Sporeworks) Mid bottom - Subtropicalis (Saralove...
Spawning a grain jar of the Sporeworks version to straw today so we'll see how that goes.

Really gutted about it so I feel you there TCO.. I feel you man..

the waiting game with semperviva is quite advanced .. they seem to have eaten through the liner. the surface is fully colonised and glistening. and i can sense knots forming.. edging on to an earth shattering first flush i feel... like a virgin...
