Don Lemon bites the dust too. * 2
    #28294300 - 04/25/23 07:00 AM (8 months, 29 days ago)

CNN just fired him.

Seems like the networks are getting rid of their extremists.

Lemon's show was a failure, the ratings were terrible. It's really not even worth comparing Lemon to Tucker. It's two different worlds. One guy failed to entertain, the other had the most popular news show on TV and managed to bring a $800M settlement against his company. Lemon's politics are simply not of any concern in this matter.

CNN was trying to be a bland middle of the road broadcast and hired lemon to be that.

the business model is failing, because NO ONE wants to watch middle of the road opinion. they could potentially make it as a down the middle NEWS since we no longer have any cable NEWS.

but for commentary and opinions people want the extreme so they watch fox or msnbc.

what lemon was hired for failed. the executives failed... they needed a scapegoat and lemon was it.

plain and simple. its not lemon himself, thats what he was hired to do, but they can point to him say its his fault and get a chance to retool. MAYBE we will get lucky and have a 24 hour news network instead of just ANOTHER Boring opinion network.

Love him or hate him, we should all be very worried that anyone can be fired for some stupid, insignificant nonsense we said months or even years ago.

As much as I'd like you to be right, we both know this isn't going to happen.

Only if you're famous and you have that specific type of job .    My employer will never fire me for saying a woman is past her prime .
It's funny to me when people see shit like this happen to super famous people who sit in front of a camera all day say " that's going to happen to me too " .
  It won't .

Not true at all. You don't have to be famous. A relative of mine is a school teacher. She is constantly having to watch what she says and bite her tongue. That's just one example. This issue is ubiquitous. If you don't think so then you're part of the problem. Regular people get cancelled every day.

No it can't.

You know why? I don't routinely make disparaging comments about groups of people over characteristics they cannot change.

That's what I don't understand about conservatives. When you say something like "well, it'll happen to you too!" This overwhelmingly happens to people that make jokes at the expense of a marginalized group, and then it stopped being okay to make those jokes. Like you used to be able to make fun of gay people, and now you can't. Well, you can, it's just nobody else thinks it's funny.

But there were plenty of people back then that didn't make fun of gay people, correctly recognizing that even if it is socially acceptable, it is a shitty thing to do. So I am in no way concerned about being "cancelled" for my views. I don't punch down.

Edit: the fact that you took the time to say "it will happen to you" makes me think that you are, if fact, aware on some level that you have said or done shitty things that you maybe aren't all that proud of but also aren't willing to take back, because they are still socially acceptable.

I don’t like the guy a lot but I enjoyed watching his New Years Eve specials where he would just get hammered and talk crazy.

Except I'm not a nationally broadcast tv personality, communicating things to millions of people, nor am I a school teacher who has the responsibility of teaching minors. Both require some higher standard to be held to than myself: a ground guy in a tree crew. Best believe though if I said some foul shit around the customers my boss could potentially fire me and would be right to do so.
