Some kind of Mutinus species, probably Mutinus elegans .

That's funny you say that, because I believe that may be a dog stinkhorn, named for a canine boner. They're all pretty nasty, though the netted stinkhorn is considered a delicacy in japan.

yeah ive seen the stinkhorn being used on a cooking show before... theres like some certain way to cook it... i believe there was a post somewhere about this... theres a japanese name for it i just cant think of it.
