Possible new technique for dramatically increasing yeild
    #28290994 - 04/23/23 07:47 AM (9 months, 14 hours ago)

Hi, I’m fairly new to the board, but have been cultivating for about 4 years. Started out getting the pre-sterilized bed jars, moved on to all in one bags, then mono tubs. I get,& sterilize my own grain, & whatnot. After having several grows in mono tub’s in liking the amount I get versus the other amounts I was thinking about the side pen issue and how people try to avoid side pins and I thought to myself how could I use side pins, but not have that area B too moist where it’s prone to contamination and getting slimy. . in addition to that, as I was discarding a spent cake, one day, I looked at the very bottom right that wasn’t exposed to oxygen because it was the bottom of the tub and it was a beautiful mat of white and I wondered how could I make it so this entire cake surface area produces mushrooms not just the top .. my solution was figuring out a way where after the mycelium had taken over my bulk casing mix, and it’s is a solid cake. I gently remove the cake and put it on a metal grate that is inside my small greenhouse..
The results have been amazing, instead of having mushrooms only growing out of the top of my mono tub, and aggravating side pins that don’t really grow to completion and are prone to getting contamination & ruining your whole cake, I’ve got mushrooms growing out of the sides, bottom and top. I mean honestly this cake that you are going to see in pictures had already put out one big flush, and one small flush, and I thought it was done. I was able to remove the cake from the tub, (although it did split in half) and rehydrated it by filling the mono tub with ice water for about six hours. I also put a tiny bit of hydrogen peroxide in the water which helps with any potential contamination.
Could you guys take a look, & tell me what you think, & if this is a new technique I came up with, or if it’s been done before. I’d love to know what you guys are getting for total dried weight from a mono tub . Right now, I’m at 6oz dried..& counting..
I’d love to hear what everyone has to say.all questions will be answered.
    Thanks, Jack Straw

Your side-pin theory has already been addressed in another thread.

The other things you are doing are unnecessary/possibly detrimental:
Peroxide in water to rehydrate your sub.
Rehydrating with ice water.
Removing the sub block from the tub when rehydrating (I mean, it broke in half).

Even if any of this DOES increase the BE by a little bit (which the burden of proof is on you to measure and demonstrate that, I'm betting on not), none of this is revolutionary, and also not advanced mycology.

I would encourage you to measure your input/output ratio with a liner/great surface conditions vs your cake-on-a-rack-tek with a cloned culture as a control, over several grows to get an average. Please report back, I could be wrong.

Blessings.

Yield is generally based on how much spawn you use and the specific genetic you're working with.

For instance, you can't get more yield out of 1qt of spawn than what it physically is capable of providing nutrients for.

You can easily get 10+oz out of 2 flushes in a standard size monotub with the right genetics and spawn.
