ok. i don't think these are anything special, but i'm really curious to know what they are. there's a shady spot in my yard where mushrooms and moss always grow. these things keep popping up. i tried to include pictures encompassing a couple different stages. the biggest mushroom cap was about the size of my hand. the stem seems fairly solid and homogenous (if anyone uses that word to describe stems...). they wind up being about four inches tall. any help? thanks!
by the way, i'm in the process of making a spore print, and as for environment...i'm in one of the northernmost states and the mushrooms are growing in fairly sandy soil (although it's nowhere near pure sand. just sandy)
look like Agaricus sp.
does it bruise any particular color [or colors]?
how does it smell?
can you tell how many layers there are to the veil of the younger specimen?
Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.
