Yea let's not attempt another hybrid. Cube-Nat hybrids are enough I feel. Luckily this won't be possible with a simple crossing, you'd have to use the snake venom or something.
Let's keep the species pure

I do like them for what they are. Although it would be awesome to grow a canopy of semperviva fruits that were +60g each in about 2 months from spore to harvest. We could make it a weed strain name like "peanut butter crush penis muffin" or something like that. Sorry I saw "Bluey Vuitton" and I think that broke me.
I'll stop now. Sorry.

Sorry,to be honest.. I rather keep it "Psilocybe Subtropicalis" and also just stop using semperviva.. like we have stopped using hoogshagenii var. convexa..
Same like all the messed up cubensis names.. I'm not in favor of crossing anything.. I enjoy the natural phenotypes.. not the mutants we can create of out it.. if you need more potency grow a potent strain, have more patience growing them or just grow more mushrooms.
But I guess like with the meat industry we want to breed "faster, bigger, better".. quantity over quality. Just pick a good clone, don't go the frankenstein route.. if you want to experiment take more mushrooms than you ever did before..

Agreed, there’s already so much diversity to be explored in the natural world, on a side note I understand the contininuity of proper naming, semperviva sounds nicer to me though… but I still agree with you in that.

Yeah sorry I never understood what to actually call these things. So just P. Subtropicalis then?
Honesty is never wrong so I'm all for it. I wasn't actually going to do any crossing I was just curious if it was possible and to wonder what kind of weird name we would see come from it if it was possible. I am lucky to be able to grow mushrooms let alone be able to cross something.
Funny when I asked in the Natalensis thread why anyone would want to cross them with a cube I got shit about why I wouldn't want to.

I’ve been sticking with Semperviva. From this thread: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/27752748#27752748

When we start talking about the many species out there, different behaviors and characteristics deepen the mystery.
It's Psilocybe hoogshagenii var. convexa that they are talking about, aka Psilocybe semperviva. It's in section Zapotecorum, while the true P. hoogshagenii is related to P. mexicana.
All psilocybin mushrooms have active mycelium, some are more potent than others. As a general rule, species with more potent fruits have more potent mycelium.

I thought we established its not hoogshagenii var convexa, so it shouldn't be semperviva. Sounds like it should be subtropicalis

Are P. semperviva and P. hoogshagenii var. convexa and P. subtropicalis ALL the same species???
Why the fuck this species got three names lol god damn...
Probably, but it's hard to be sure until the type collections can get sequenced.

Right, and that's what I want from the great Mr Rockefeller, sequencing.
Hoogshagenii var convexa looks quite a bit different than the subtrop we're all growing. Although it could just be a stress reaction to us not getting conditions completely correct but even outdoors there's no nipple

You're probably thinking about Psilocybe hoogshagenii var. hoogshagenii, it has an acute umbo and is not the same species.

What makes it hard is that this specie displays many different shapes and sizes.. spaghetti, short dwarfs, fat stipe, curling cap, convex cap. I recall mycorry (haven't seen him being active the past year or even longer.. ) did some testing where he demonstrated later flushes resulted in a transition from curly to convex caps... If I recall correctly. But.. the ones TCO cultivated in the beginning look very different from the ones CaptainFuture eventually grew.. same specie.. so yeah, who knows. Maybe we need some wild print cultivations.. anyone attempting wild prints at the moment?

This is from today. It certainly could be due to conditions. The lineage is from the same/only print I’ve received. First time it’s looked like this.

All from the same original multi-spore genetics..
Personally, I believe the curl up caps are chasing air. Seems like some are more prone than others.. these spore grows are prior to any cloning or isolating.

I believe we are now seeing more isolation of various traits. Remember, after we grew these Workman isolated/cloned a shorter/smaller version with thicker canopies. They looked much more like todays average genetics that I'm seeing here.
You are all cranking them out though. Keep up the good work!!
