First signs of growth on my first PF tek since 2009!

Doing some agar and grain on the side but I wanted to cover my bases with a couple of PF tek jars.

Got a little test tub going after I opened an UB bag too early because I wanted to get an idea for colonization times and what the actual bag looks like vs what you can see through the window. I didnβt have any substrate made up so I just used a few scoops out of an all in one bag. There was maybe 1/3-1/2 bag of colonized grains and I mixed that with like 1.5 300 ml mason jars of the all in one sub. I did it all in my SAB which made it really difficult and I was not able to pack the edges down like Iβd like to. Iβm really just wanting to show this off I spawned to bulk on Monday this week and this is where weβre at now but Iβm wondering how much substrate should I have used for this? Feels like I went light but I have no clue.

Just going to ignore the UB thing...
Spawning to bulk doesn't need to be done in an SAB.
2-4 Inches at least would be the recommended substrate depth.
I would have gone deeper.
Are those uncolonized grains from the all in one sitting on top of the substrate?

if youβre referring to the little seeds on the substrate then yes Iβm pretty sure that what they are. The bags come premixed. Uncle bens is just one of the many colonization projects Iβve got going. Hence why I opened the bag with very little intent to actually use it but then I felt extreme guilt just throwing away all the hard work that mycelium had put in colonizing that shitty rice so i worked with what I had on hand.
I definitely realized afterwards that spawning in a SAB was completely useless but you live and you learn I suppose.
Those uncolonized grains open me up for risk of contamination by providing food to competing organisms right?

It was a hard battle but I kept it contained. They were all over my precious FP+ pins and substrate. After setting a trap, I sealed the fae holes with mp tape and latched the tub shut. The next day, I flooded the tub with water loaded with mosquito bits. Slowly they went away, but not before causing a few mild injuries. Fuck you fungus gnats, I won! Now I get to enjoy the spoils of war!

I get that. I'm glad you're moving on
Also, this is the cultivation pic thread. I usually wouldn't speak on anyone's grow in here but said something because you had asked about substrate depth. Forgive me if I'm in the wrong.
But yeah, the uncolonized grains on the top of the substrate is just a nice open food source for anything that isn't mycelium.
