Question about water...
    #2828674 - 06/25/04 06:56 PM (13 years, 1 month ago)

I've always read or heard to use bottled or filtered water when it comes to making substrate. Is it okay to use tap water? I'm guessing that it is, but just wanting to make sure if anyone has had problems with it. I've also got a question about salt water which I'm going to place in the advanced forum. Any info is appreciated!

That's what I was thinking. But a lot of places that I've read said to only use bottled water., but they gave no reasoning. I have a tap filter in place so it's never been in an issue, but a friend asked me. So, I thought I'd get some answers from the field.

Naw. Most people seem to think that tapwater contains pure arsenic, cyanide, and botulism, combined. So long as your tapwater isn't freakishly nasty -- in other words, if it's drinkable and not nasty -- you're okay. If it's got a lot of chlorine in it, I'd suggest boiling it for ten minutes or so before use.

With the filter, you should be perfectly fine.
