Yeah that shit will play mind games with you.  Just know this, you already got the message so it’s just a matter of which consequence will be severe enough to drive that message home and whether or not that consequence comes before dying does.

It’s all up to you.:mmmkay:

Maybe join a local A.A. group? Sometimes a group of people with the same goal can help...

definitely find a local A.A. meeting. it's a really great thing and a great place to be.

alcohol is a beast. the first drink is the easiest one to say no to.

when you are sick and tired of being sick and tired, drag yourself to a meeting. they are Great!

Alcohol is pure poison for some people. If you recognize that alcohol is bad for you it is best to leave it completely alone. You know this. You will succeed because your desire to be happy outweighs the call of the alcohol for you. Your one of the lucky ones that realize this.

Go to AA. Take your ass in there. It will feel horrible your very first day but I also promise things will get better for you. Download the app "Meeting Guide" to find your local AA groups and times. Take it one day at a time. There's no need to talk on your first day. Just sit and listen, (unless you need to talk) You're also going to want to pour any alcohol out. I threw my last beer cans at a wall to feel better at the time.

Sobriety has literally saved my life from imminent destruction. I was on a pretty bad path and have plenty of stupid, irresponsible stories. The thing is though I have zero stories even nearly similar to those now. My alcoholism lead to other substances and worse decisions to the point I almost hurt myself very badly and hurt plenty of people around me. I come from a family of alcoholics so its in my blood. I am completely powerless over my alcohol use and cannot drink just one.

Im now 1 year and 4 months sober. I was still smoking weed at the time but am now 8.5 mo ths clean from weed even.

I like dharma recovery instead of A.A. there should be some better recovery options that don't have such a big God element. Not that I have a problem with God, its just that I don't share many people's conception of what God is. Some people say AA doesn't revolve around that, but a lot of it does. Some chapters say the lords prayer every meeting and it was founded by some heavy Christians.

Either way, spiraling with alcohol is rough. Been having a hard time with it myself. You'll know when you're ready to give it up for good. Be vigilant and look for a sign from God. It can come any second your heart is open to it.

Buy sweets and stockpile. Do your best to hold out but when you feel the urge coming in strong, do some weed instead and then eat sweets.
Both the weed and sweets will release dopamine in your brain which will help ease the cravings.

The body uses sugar (glucose) to process salt.

Alcohol can be very very bad for you and the flip side is that it will never likely be very good for you regardless of any circumstances.

If you recognize you have any sort of problem with alcohol the easiest decision you can make is to just leave it alone.

Very easy for me to say all this.

Be good to yourself brother, we really want the best for you.

Thats cool about the Dharma Recovery, i had no idea that existed. And yeah, AA does have a big "God" element which is pretty off-putting in certain ways, as its so closely tied to the Church. But some people like all that God talk i guess.

Give the dharma recovery a shot. Seriously, just do it. They have online meetings every day of the week, but there is an in person group in my town. I like it for a lot of reasons. They do a 10-15 min meditation at the beginning, and then there is not a requirement that you identify as an alcoholic or addict of any kind, and of course, no God talk if you dont want there to be. Just a chance for you to talk about what's going on with you and hear how other people are managing their difficult situations. We are all totally addicted to pleasure, it is a big part of our lives. But one can totally find some inner peace which loosens the grip of any substance or addiictive mental process.

Wise words.

I have personally found within myself and noticed by the actions of other people that the vast majority of any specific substance abuse comes from one or more of the following things:

1. Trauma; whatever type of trauma and whatever time this trauma occurred in your life it went unresolved and instead of dealing with the issue and how it affected you personally, one uses a substance for the purpose of either forgetting the trauma or dealing with the feelings it causes. The use perpetuates into an addiction.

2. Learned Behaviors; an individual learns that substance use and/or abuse is the norm ( this happens when someone grows up in an environment where the norm is substance use and/or abuse and usually will begin a pathway to dependency at a very young age)

3. Unintentional Dependency; this is where an individual uses a substance in a social setting for whatever reason and really enjoys the alternative feeling that such substance provides to them, they use the substance for no other reason than a recreational purpose (distinctly different than reason #1) but after repeated use they become addicted to the substance and/or become disenfranchised by the lack of availably of the substance to heighten their mood. Hence the chase of the initial high begins and the individual does not recognize that chasing such a "high" has placed themselves in a downward spiral and if and when they do recognize this they feel as if it's too late to change or life without the substance becomes meaningless.

4. Other means; Being that often an individual will sometimes assign some type of blame for whatever reason or abstract logic they my choose in order to individualize their experience and then refuse to admit the factual circumstances that lead to their individual dependency or abuse of a particular substance for the purpose of offering to themselves a seemingly valid reason to perpetuates a pattern of unfavorable or self defeating behavior.-If anyone who reads this believes that causation of substance abuse exist outside of the three generalities previously mentioned, by all means let us have that discussion as I am open to learning more about the why of others actions.

Essentially people mostly abuse substances to their own detrimental well being because they do not like who they are or how they feel about themselves. The key to overcoming these types of feelings is replacing the self doubting behavior with self assuring behavior.

In the beginning process of this change their must be a strong desire to break oneself free from the status quo. Many programs that offer help is of a limited variety and builds it's foundation upon replacing one crutch for another. I'm not knocking it if it works for you and you're happy, however I believe that a total metamorphosis from the current thought cycles that perpetuated the substance abuse is a best case scenario for meaningful and long lasting change.

My advice, take a heroic dose of mushrooms and think about it. When you reach the point of terror and panic embrace those feelings and explore them fully, the answers you seek are right on the other side of those feelings.

One cannot have a full understanding of bitterness without an equal understanding of sweetness.

Learning to love yourself can be a difficult endeavor given life experience that was never conducive to this end, however the mission of the shroomey is harm reduction and there can be no better way to reduce an individual's harm to themselves than helping this individual love themselves.

You are valid, your feelings are important and there is no reason that you cannot decide right in this moment that you will love yourself and that means that from now on you will treat yourself well. No more self punishment, no more loathing what you did, no more reliving what was done to you or how any of that makes you feel when you think about it. You can decide that from this moment on you will leave the past in the past and move forward to a new day, this new day will be whatever you want it to be and you will shape it how you want because you give yourself full control. You can dump everything from the present into the past and decide you will own today with your actions and your actions will be beneficial to you and those around you.

You have the power to choose how you feel, you have every right to choose to be happy.

The most important thing you will ever do is decide that you will accept all responsibility for your present situation regardless of the actions of others and make the changes necessary to be the happy person that you deserve to be.

Always remember that regardless of what happened or who was to blame that one can never undue an action. Accept whatever it is for whatever it was and don't allow it to define you or your future unless such definition is exactly what you want to be.

Allow the wisdom of the ages to show you the path to self love and true freedom.

Don’t trade one substance, alcohol, for another.
Go to AA. Tell them you’re concerned and 50 bucks says you’ll leave with multiple phone numbers just trying to be supportive friends

Why not? Heroine addicts do it with methadone?
I'm not an expert by any means, and I want that to be known so that what I say is taken with a grain of salt. (I'm an alcoholic as well) but I honestly think that under some circumstances at least, substitution can help. Alcohol is a beverage which means that it has a unique consumption pattern compared to many other drugs. Substitution can at least help cater to the cravings by continuing interaction with the brain's reward center in the same way that alcohol does, while allowing a means to halt habitual tendencies that come with drug abuse (in this case alcohol consumption, and the habit being 'drinking/sipping').
This is obviously not a perfect solution as the addiction can shift but I still think this could serve to be an effective battle plan under the right circumstances.

Methadone is far worse than heroin for physical addictive qualities, however your point is well taken.

Recognizing the addictive behavior pattern is certainly a key to overcoming and changing.

For example one could switch to "near beer" which has an alcohol content of about .5 percent as opposed to most other alcoholic beverages. I have seen people successfully switch to this beverage from other forms of alcohol and successfully change the other poor choice behaviors that occupanied their regular high level of intoxication.

I preach moderation is great when abstaining is not considered as an option. This means that I believe it's ok if you want to continue to use a substance in moderation.

As an extreme example: if someone were to be hooked on heroin and mainlining a gram a day just to keep from being sick it would be of noteworthy benefit if this person could reduce their usage to twice a week and although some would say that it would be unrealistic to believe that heroin addict could reduce their habit in this manner there can be no  debating that such reduction would very likely be beneficial to the individual.

Starting a journey to travel halfway around the world and slay a giant begins with one single step in that direction.
