Is nausea always a thing or can your body adapt?

You sort of adapt. I think you will always experience nausea but I have found it more manageable over time.

very late reply, my apologies.
Have you tried lemon tek? That reduces nausea in quite a few people.

If I eat mushrooms I get a horrible stomache cramping. But I just tried a tea where I first covered the ground mushrooms with lemon juice in a French press. then boiled water and poured the boiling water into the French press and let it sit for a half hour. Then I strained the gunk out and was left with a very citrusy mushroom tea and had no nausea. Maybe I had a little from the smell of the mushrooms while drinking but no physical stomache cramps during the trip. And it was just as strong if not stronger as eating it.

I'm also a big fan of consuming mushroom tea to eliminate the nausea and cramping from eating multiple grams of dried shrooms. It works.
FYI: There is an active thread started by mushboy, Making Shroom Tea, if anyone is interested.

I try to use natural little tricks to temporarily up my stomach acidity and digest easier.
Caffeine has almost no effect on me. I'm a big coffee drinker and always have been, so I take a cup of coffee along with ingestion. Coffee itself is acidic and also promotes stomach acidity.
I tried chewing a big piece of gum as well to trick my brain into thinking food was incoming and bumping up stomach acidity.
I take 1000 mg vitamin c daily, so I timed that to coincide with dosing for perhaps a bit more acidity.
I don't drink alcohol or eat much processed sugar and pay attention to my gut health before dosing.
I took a full 1/4 of some old and weak mushrooms hoping to get something out of them last weekend munched dry using these little tricks and had zero nausea. I typically have a rather sensitive stomach.
Lemon tek is a thing and aids digestion/reduces nausea but in my very limited experience, it seemed to shorten trip duration by quite a bit but that's by no means definitive due to small sample size.

Ginger works pretty well, although I still get some stomach upset. I've tried candied ginger as well as ginger tea.

I wonder if it would be safe to take Zofran or something similar if you had access to it?

Start fasting 3-4 hours prior.
Drink plenty of water
Anything with ginger on it. (Ginger ale, ginger beer, speaking water with minced ginger... )
Should help

Fasting doesn't do a thing, absolutely no value what so ever.
Make a tea but understand it will hit faster, you should have any stomach issues if you make tea.

Fasting is worthless for belly but yes makes it hit a lil harder + faster. For the belly make lemon tea tek. If you must eat, take tea 5-10 mins b4 eating. Take magnesium pills + ibuprofen that help digestion/blood flow 15-30 mins B4 shrooms. And last but not least, take a walk after the initial intake to help things flow thru the digestive track. Make it a quick 10 min 2 block walk your back b4 you even have things kicking in.

I personally haven't experienced nausea in a long time.
I think there are at least three distinctly different causes:
1. Improperly stored/dried material
2. The difficulty we have digesting the chitin in the cell walls
3. A physiological reaction to the effects
The first remains a serious issue. A lot of people just don't know any better. Back when we mostly ate wild cubes, puking was seen as par for the course. Now, a lot of people still don't understand how to properly dry and store them. If anyone offers me a mushroom that came out of a sandwich baggie, or doesn't crumble to dust when I rub it between my fingers, I'm not interested.
The second has several potential workarounds; eating more potent mushrooms so you ingest less chitin, making tea so you don't ingest any, and grinding them into powder so that it's already somewhat borken down.
The third is dependent on the individual. It's not something I've ever had to deal with, but for some it happens every time no matter what.
All the other things mentioned here might help, as remedies. But they're not, stricly speaking, preventative.

U kinda adapt to it. Fasting or eating small meals helps, making teas or other extractions help. I find eating shrooms with a small amount of food helps.

Different mushrooms can help as well. Natalensis are known for low body load, and the right pan cyans are so potent you need very little mushroom.
I did read somewhere speculating that the psilocybin binding to seritonin receptors in the stomach may play some role in discomfort.
