What’s with this crazy mycelial bruising? This is NSS. Edit: it's hard to see in the pics, but IRL the blue is very deep and noticeable.

Maybe from contamination? The plate that I blasted with of UV-C doesn’t seem to have any bruising:

Can you elaborate why you've irradiated a plate with UV?

Just got a small spore print and germinating now on water agar. Do they germinate the same speed as cubes?
For shoeboxes, do they require more fae or can standard shoebox set and forget and flip lid before finishing work?

In my shoebox experience, once you spawn them keep it closed until the mushrooms show up. Then crack the lid so they can push it up or dub tub them. Pretty much it's set and forget.

The spores I got definitely germinate faster than cubes. I've done 3 agar batches with them alongside 2 other cubes (Jack Frost and PES Amazonian) and Natalensis where always the first to germinate and show the fastest growth.

Sweet! Those are looking very nice. I had a "naht phat pheno" about a year ago, but it got lost in the shuffle of my on again off again cultivation cycles. I really do love how much depth and diversity is hiding in this undomesticated mushroom.
Hope you are all having a good weekend. PsiloPsychIn

Very interesting study. Dunno that our mushrooms would respond the same, but it's worthy of exploration.
-------------------- If you've never grown mushrooms before, here's how you start. First, follow the Updated PF Tek, put 4 holes in jar lids not 1, and use a water tub! The next move is Shoebox Tek. After that you move onto grains, agar, monotubs. Agar is easy, just do it. Other useful links - Picture guide for how things should look and proper surface conditions guide Growing APE or PE? I've figured out that much, but what traits specifically are you looking to isolate? Or just playing around seeing what will happen?

I guess I'm just playing around. By definition, UV mutagenesis is the random type of mutagenesis, so it's a dice roll. If a mutant shows something interesting, I'll isolate it out. Unfortunately, from all the papers I read, mutants from UV don't have particularly significant changes in their phenotypes. Some UV-irradiated gourmet strains have higher yields or are sporeless, but those are phenotypes attainable with normal selective breeding from multispore. Attempting to irradiate mycelium for longer will just kill it.
I've read up on site-directed mutagenesis, which gives more control, but that's out a bit out of scope (and budget) for the home cultivator haha.

None of my plates have pinned yet, and a few have overlay. This is my favorite looking plate so far, but we’ll see which ones produce.

Piggy I hope you enjoy them friend. SPG I cannot remember how long mine took to pin on plates, but I believe I already had cultures on grain before it did. I am too impatient to wait for plate pins.

Yeah, I’m sure I could’ve had fruiting shoe boxes by now, but I’m too methodical to rush. Only plate pins are allowed to touch my grain!🤣
