I'll have to try that if my next flush comes in.

On another topic, why did the name of the thread change?

Yeah I'm not surprised. I always got spaghettis from EZD. Not a problem to trip with spaghettis tho'!

Hey y’all. Is this ready to case yet or do I wait until all top layer is colonised?

Ideally I’d give it a couple more days, that being said I’ve definitely cased before when it’s looked like that and things went fine. But I suggest waiting a bit!

Thanks man. I’m planning on casing thinly with 50/50 coir verm, mainly cause it’s what I’ve got on hand. Is that a good call?

Someone replied to an older post when the jury was still out.  Fixed it if people reply to this nonsense or a post like 15 or more ago....

I’d skip the coir and do straight verm personally, take that with a grain of salt though I’ve never used verm nor coir in a casing so someone who has may have a better response than I. Though I would still reason straight Verm would be better than coir and verm. I also believe some folks are having good results without casing as well, but I may be misremembering. I like using peat/lime personally.

Great advice, thanks. Is that so the myc doesn’t try to colonise the coir part?

There are still pins coming up, but I'm discouraged by the sparse canopy. I noticed that there's a lot more coming in along the edges. I'm trying to think why that is, but I don't have any conclusions.

about 1:3 spawn : coir
spawn is millet, coir substrate was brought to field capacity
1/4" casing of pasteurized cactus soil hydrated to field capacity after full colonization

Next things I was thinking of trying:
- drier casing
- psuedocasing w /coir (previously this didn't work but these are new genetics to me from Melgo)

Open to suggestions. I'm not going to be happy until I get more consistent and denser canopy!

Man I'd be happy with that. To me it looks like it might fill in a little more. Is this a clone or ms?

This is from a print that Melgo sent me + several transfers on agar to isolate. I'll probably clone from that nice chunky cluster you see there. Never cloned a semp yet, and I've had a hard time getting a prints in the past but we'll see.

I have another set of genetics that I've been working with from a vendor...forgot the name. Similar grow pattern, unsure about potency comparison.

I just took 2 clones from my latest flush of them. It's a little tricky but not as bad as pans. I can't wait to grow them out to see if why I cloned them carries over. Hopefully it will improve the canopy.

I would have agreed with you a few days ago. Said as much myself. Verm was good, 50:50 peat:verm was good too, but the coir bottles didn’t look good. However, I cased a bag with coir because it was all I had on hand. It’s doing just fine.

Cased mine with straight coir too and it did pretty good.

Here's what I do:
  • Ratio spawn/sub: 1/2.
  • Substrate: under field capacity - squeeze it as hard as I can check TheFreshPrint journal too for that.
  • Casing: thin layer of pasteurized cactus soil.

Edited to correct the spawn/sub ratio.

I didn’t bother casing my current tub at all and it’s near canopy.

Thanks Melgo. And thanks again for sending the the print!

I just read through your Growing Semperviva post, it’s fantastic — thanks for compiling your info.

I notice in that post you said 1:2 ratio. Curious if that’s changed over time to 1:1 and what the difference seems to be?

I have a few colonized jars, and now I have a plan for the next run!

My pleasure for the print and glad you enjoyed the post

Yes, my bad! It's 1:2 ratio!!! I'll edit my post above.
Let us know about your next run. GL
